So, you allow your cat to go outside & then have a hissy fit when he does what cats do best? Hunt for prey?

I amend my comment from yesterday – Luddy will be insulted (or confused) when Arlo saves the skink, etc, etc…

Our cat, who spends most of his time in a screened porch, sometimes catches the lizards that get in. When I can save the lizard I take it out onto the front porch with a lecture — “stay out of the back porch, the cat will get you.” The message must be getting through — last year there were no lizards and this year just one so far. I really don’t like cleaning up thrown-up lizard parts.

I rushed Hammie, my tiny terrorist, to the vet a couple of years ago because he (Hammie) was foaming at the mouth. Turned out he had caught a lizard which oozed a toxin through its skin, making it unappetizing for predators. It was an expensive lesson for both of us.

There are a few assorted lizards that live in my back yard. They delight in driving Moxie nuts. She knows something is under the shed/recycle can/garbage can, etc., but can’t get to it. She has caught and killed (but didn’t eat) one lizard that I know about. If she ate others, I never found out.

We had mice in our basement. We tried traps, poison, and everything else we could think of, but we still had mice. Then, one day we found an abandoned kitten by the roadside, and brought her home. The good news was that ended the mice problem. The bad news was she loved to show us her kills by putting them on the bed pillows, usually at night. Ever wake up with a dead mouse on the pillow by your head? By the way, she just turned sixteen.

I don’t want rodents in or near my house. Squirrels are OK.I have two cat’s. I have no rodents….But, as Lewis Linson points out, they do like to show you that they are contributing to the household…“Here. I killed this for you. Enjoy.” Gross, but very sweet….

My cat has caught a few lizards over the years. Most of them manage to get away, but he’s ended up eating at least one that I know of. I don’t care because he’s just following his instincts, but I don’t let him bring them inside.

Yes, yes! I think you’re the only one who “gets it”! Arlo says “we”, but Janis looks, “uh, I didn’t tell him not to catch any skinks”. She wants the skinks gotten rid of. Arlo corrects, “I” told you not to catch any skinks.

At our house it’s baby bunnies this year…..but they’re getting too big now and the cat can’t keep up. He doesn’t kill them, just chases them. Amazing how fast they can run.
