@woodworker318—-Absolutely. I do also. The only proper way to make a great grilled cheese sandwich. I also use a few extra slices of Velveeta cheese & brown both sides until done. You can’t have a good artery clogging sandwich unless you load it up with extra butter & cheese.
This one brought back memories. When I was a small child, during WWII, when everything was rationed (including butter), I insisted on buttering my toast on both sides. I also remember stirring the packets of yellow powder into a white substance called margarine. To make it more appealing,I guess.
Buttering both sides of a grilled cheese sammy? I got to try that next time I make my grilled chopped pepperoni and american cheese ! ( I chop the pep. so you wont drag a slice out with hot cheese on to your chin, shirt, lap ) ps that burns !
CFinFL: Velveeta is not cheese. You need a good, aged cheddar. .codger1944: How bland! Sam Rayburn always ate a powerful Fannin County Bermuda onion slice (only) on his bedtime sandwich. Now, no one in Fannin County even grows onions commercially. Agribusiness cartels have destroyed many a quality produce.
I’ve thought of buttering both sides, but now if it falls on the floor I’ve got a 50% chance I can still eat it. With both sides buttered, I’d have 0 chance.
The best method for buttering both sides of each slice of bread for a grilled cheese sandwich before adding the cheese, is to melt a whole lot of butter in the frying pan, & soak each side of the bread in it for 5 or 10 seconds, while swishing it around to help it soak up the butter. Leave just enough butter to then grill the sandwich. Flip the sandwich often to get a golden brown instead of burning it. Delicious!

Butter my left hind foot! If you are toasting bread, put some bacon, lettuce, and tomato between those slices.

Peanut butter on one side and jelly on the other. That way when you drop it . . .

Seems like both sides of anything on toast would be messy…

I remember my southern Mom making a Vidalia onion and tomato sandwich on “light bread” as we used to call it.

Vidalia onions are great. The onion, tomato, mayo sandwich sounds good. Someone mention candy onions some where. Much sweeter than vidalias. Yummy!

I butter both sides of my toasted raisin bread.

I had never thought of buttering my toast on both sides.
So that makes me a “normal person” right now.

i think the fact that i only butter 1 side is not enough to make me normal. i’m not sure there’s anything that’ll make that happen

Nice to know I am not alone in my love for butter! The health gurus try to make me feel guilty but, both sides is the way for me!!!
