Pig: Oh, how inhumane. Those people are locking away elves.
Rat: You dumb PIg. It's a self-storage place. The signs just missing an 'S.'
Pig: Oh. I'm sorry.
Another missing-letter sign of the moment…. There are promos for the MOMA retrospective of the art of Yoko Ono that feature a photo of the museum, altered so that there seems to be a large cutout space in museum’s sign. Like this: MUSEUM OF MODERN __ART. On the sidewalk, Yoko is walking by carrying a huge letter F. (This is one we won’t be seeing on “Sesame Street”.)
Oh how I wish I had taken a picture of this – There used to be a “Discount Bible” store not too far from my home. During the day, we could read the painted sign in full. But at night, the neon wasn’t working in a few letters, and so we would see DISCO BIBLE I really wish I had taken a picture!
Reminds me of an early David Letterman Top 10 List. I remember that some of the entries included “Santa threw the bodies out on the tundra to rot,” “Santa’s Union Busting Goons,” and something about Santa’s X-Rated movie, “The North Poled.” Hilarious stuff!
At the end of the work day at McDonald’s, I noticed the pegboard sign, “NOW HIRING ALL SHIFTS.” I took out the F from “shifts” and scrunched the letters back together. One of the supervisors looked at the sign and said, “I have been hiring them all.”
As this probably the top comic for wordplay jokes, it’s a good place to tell this. I just watched a rather silly English-dubbed Kung Fu movie, in which it seemed like the voice actors were having some fun. One of the heroes has just defeated four fighters and he says “So, you’re the Four Kings, huh? Well, you’re no Four-King good!” A joke that would seemingly only work in English…
years ago there was a place called butch’s discount appliance. i kept meaning to take a picture and juxtapose it with a picture of a ….you know, i don’t think i’ll write that part down

Inhumane either way. Why do we need a storage place for people to lock away themselves?!?

A local Self Storage place blocks out the ‘S’ during the holiday season; has done so for years.

This reminds me of the time when I was walking past a Suntrust Bank at night and noticed that the “S” was burned out. Not a good sign.
