    It’s just a theory… I mean forecast, so it’s just a guess, and I don’t have to believe it if I don’t want to!

The same people pushing Global Warming/ Climate Change were pushing a new ice age back in the 70’s. Since we never got the ice age or global warming, they changed it to climate change since the climate will change no matter what we do, they’d have to be right. I don’t doubt that climate is changing, it’s been changing since the beginning of time but we need to worry about what they’re doing to our oceans and quit this Climate Change BS.

No climatologist ever said there would be “no more snow in ten years.” No one ever said in the 1970s that there would be a new ice age (well, one article in Newsweek about a study that said it could happen in 10,000 years, but which would be caused by cycles that have nothing to do with the current decades-scale man-made climate change). The argument is over, except for hucksters and suckers on the right, who unfortunately control the government and make bone-headed comments on comics pages. You can no longer find a scientist who doubts that humans are causing climate change for the same reason that you can’t find a scientist who denies that tobacco causes cancer. Anyone who actually looks at the data cannot rationally deny it.

Sigh. WiseOrator, there were such predictions, but as always, people like Nos Nevets are cherry-picking. Here are a few quotes from the 2000 Independent article.

“David Parker, at the Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research in Berkshire, says ULTIMATELY, British children could have only virtual experience of snow. Via the internet, they might wonder at polar scenes – or eventually “feel” virtual cold.

    and,

“HEAVY SNOW WILL RETURN OCCASIONALLY says Dr Viner, but when it does we will be unprepared. ’We’re really going to get caught out. Snow will probably cause chaos in 20 years time,’ he said.”I think Nos Nevets never read anything but the idiotic title: “Snowfalls are now just a thing of the past”.

    (Emphasis added)

Thank You Motivemagus for your very thoughtful & objective comment. One of my engineer sons is a graduate from KUin both metrology, & Astronomy. Being raised in NJ, lived in PA, & Summers in New England, then 30 years in Kansassuburb of KC MO, I’ve seen quite a variety of weather extremes. Now after 20 years in the NW Tucson region,I’ve observed effects of water sucking development & population growth straining dwindling water supply.

Today’s AZ Star front page article shouts it’s not just California suffering severe drought, it’s the whole SW in a dire situation. This confirms your statement: “The science is right there, and so is the debate — which is NOT about whether AGW is happening anymore; it’s about how fast is it happening, how bad is it, and what can we do about it.”

Nos Nevets: In north Texas, we had our usual one day snow, therefore the northeast US had nothing unusual. Saturday, we had six inches of rainfall in one day, on top of weeks of ground-saturating standard rain; therefore California does not have a drought. Stop viewing your own weather as world climate. Incidentally, the Greek ’oi is a definite article; “the hoi polloi” is “the the common people” and shows your disdain for a lot of things.

Obviously, we need to keep pumping greenhouse gasses and other pollutants into the atmosphere as fast as we can.

What could go wrong? The planet can, you know, handle it.

The atmosphere, like the sea is infinite. You can dump stuff into both of them forever and there will be no bad effects.

One trivializes his or her own argument when resorting to juvenile name calling such as “Al Gory”.

When you can’t defend your position on Climate change.Deny and attack the usual suspects Obama, Al Gore and liberals/lefties, etc. Call people names(Gorbul, Al Gory,ad nauseum)

Eleanor Roosevelt had it right;“Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people

I think most everyone has got this argument wrong. What if, just possibly, the science is right and these changes may be irreversible? Now that threatens our very existence. How can anyone take this risk? Pretend you are explaining to your grandchildren the current generation destroyed the planet because some denied the science? Denying the risk is not OK.

Ha! If you listen closely, you might find a note of sarcasm (or is it irony? Whatever.) in my post. As far as I’m concerned, anthropogenic global warming, hand-in-hand with even our current population level, could very well do us all in. Judged by the end results, evil and resolute stupidity are much the same thing.
