    @masterskrain:Congress has approval ratings in the teens, but the incumbent reelection rate is over 90%. Thanks to gerrymandering and “bringing home the bacon”, most of us love our rep and the only time they do get voted out it’s in a primary. The district stays “safely” in the hands of the party controlling it.

    I have to assume that the reason incumbents hang around forever is that the average voter looks at the ballot, thinks, “Hey, I think maybe I’ve HEARD of this guy!” and votes accordingly.
