Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson for February 10, 2015
Transcript:
Calvin: "Mom says the tooth fairy might give me 50 cents for this tooth" Hobbes: "Wow!" Calvin: "So I got an idea. I poured plaster over the tooth to make a mold, and now I'm casting duplicate teeth" Calvin: "I'll put one under the pillow every night, and by the end of the year, I'll have over 150 dollars!" Hobbes: "Do you think the tooth fairy will believe your mouth had 300 teeth in it?" Calvin: "If she'd rather have an old tooth that 50 cents, how bright can she be?"

Calvin, you’re messing up the whole supply and demand dynamic.

The math is solid. But still…

i’d still like to know why anyone would buy used teeth in the first place

Interesting. Calvin can’t add 2+2 correctly yet he can correctly multiply three digit numbers!

I’d be a bit careful, otherwise Calvin might find himself “owing” the tooth fairy teeth that will have to be paid with his adult teeth later in life!

I just bought a gag set of monster teeth, put them under there and the next morning the teeth had chewed a hole in my pillow.

This coming from a kid that can’t add 6+3? Wow, the motivation of money!

50 cents? I only got a quarter for my baby teeth. Of course that was back in the ’60s.
Aaron Saltzer about 9 years ago
We’ll see if that works.

“I didn’t tell mom and dad I’d lost a tooth”*Short – You were willing to sacrifice $.50 in order to find the truth? Man, you were a kid of principle!!!

That’s a laugh out loud one.

I like Calvin’s thought process here. Plaster mold, produce “teeth”, get rich, tooth fairy not very bright. He’s perfectly willing to suspend disbelief in favor of the tooth fairy’s existence just as he is for Santa. In a certain sense, he is taking charge of his own education. Learning to deal with disappointment is one of the toughest challenges of childhood.

“50 Cents”… Isn’t he just a two bit rapper?

My grandmother went to bed one night and realized that she had forgotten to take her teeth out. Not wanting to get back up, she just took them out and put them under the pillow.
I will let you finish the story.

It makes as much sense as trickle-down economics.

I can’t remember how much I got for my teeth but I’m guessing it was around 10p or 50p.

When my son lost his first tooth, and the tooth fairy left him money, he put a cow’s tooth under his pillow — figured it would be worth a lot more.
