It could be the realization of what he “gave up”, or it could be that he realizes that there are “plenty of bridges ahead to cross”, and that he should make sure they stay intact, so that he can get across and continue on his journey….

Rosa set her bird/boy free. Now, it looks like he may come back to her. Or he’ll convince her to go to college.

Maybe they’ll do a few study abroad programs together instead of the more extreme “lets live in an impoverished villlage!” alternative.

interesting………………. obviously he still loves Rosa duh………….. but there is a chance Greg wants to go deeper than just that as his reason of thinking about Peru, part of it might be he found something adventurous (not the Rosa saves the village thing) in it, the trip with the senioritas, the working at the clinic and other things……. Rosa still needs to grow up too…………… she can’t help the village all by her lonesome, she has to become part of an organization that works in solving issues of villages(better services, better methods of agriculture etc) even if that means SHOCK!!!!!!!!! deciding to go to a college and earn a degree before being able to be part of an organization as she would have better skills

He had a girlfriend and liked how it felt. Unfortunately the girl chose being a menial laborer in a remote mountain village over being his girl. She also chose that over an ivy league education. This girl just makes poor choices. Now he at the same school as a girl he was once very interested in that now considers him more desirable. Life is looking up Gunth!

This is where Luann comes in.

Not yet…. They aren’t ready for each other. I think they need to go through maybe another SO or two, each, before being ready/mature enough to give it a try… if they are “destined” for one another.

I vote Bernice or a new girl. I don’t see Rosa returning to Pitts. If she does return to the US, she will go to Yale, as her parent’s wanted. I’m sure they’d arrange the “deferred admission” as has been for Gunther, it seems.

Pity whoever ends up with this messed-up Sad Sack. No matter what she does, she’ll be wrong. If she’s overly attentive, he’ll react like he does to his mother. If she has some kind of idealistic interest in fixing things that are wrong with the world, he’ll whine at her that he needs his home and routine. If she waits for him to make a decision about what they should do, she’ll die of old age, waiting.-He better figure himself out before he goes looking for a female companionship.-Anyway, as we learned from our sister’s experiences, the way a guy treats his mother is an important indicator of how he’ll treat a girlfriend. If he bullies his mother, look out…

Luann and every single female in the universe deserves better than a nasty, surly, snarling Gunther. If Luann is forced into a ‘relationship’ with this pathetic mess who alternately whines and yells at the most significant woman in his life right now, no one should ever bother with this comic again.

    > Who’s to say Rosa would even take him back? It’s not she put up much of a fight to keep him there, and was smiling/waving as he pulled away. >Indeed. Remember when Giunther was at the airport, and he heard an unseen speaker tell him “You didn’t think you could leave Peru that easily, did you?”, then lots and lots of people here proclaimed “It’s Rosa! She couldn’t bear to let Gunther leave without at least saying good-bye!” Nope, it turns out that Rosa was perfectly happy to give Gunther a hug (which was not returned) in the mountains, and bid him a fond (and lasting) farewell.

I wouldn’t say.. uneducated …. to do menial work like “trash detail” and digging… – Garbage workers are looked at as though they were without skills or education. But let there be 2 weeks of no pickup, let alone just 1 day . – “Menial tasks” to some may not be “glamorous” or anyone’s idea of “gainful work”. And it may not be looked upon as skilled, for sure. But if she “makes out” okay at the end of the day, and can “live with herself” (no one else can be you, but you!), then “more power to her” for whatever choices she makes, as we all make choices that are not the “standard” or the "popular’ ones… her values and mindset can’t be ours, and the reverse is also true….

And too, I know of people who aren’t in the “highest station” in their line of work, but they show more intelligence and social awareness than even some of those in more “dignified” professions. I’ve worked with fellow clerks who have lawyers and doctors for their bosses, and also departmental heads of local/municipal services, and some of them get treated like “nothing” by their immediate superiors at times (though some bosses are very good with their people!) - Furthermore, there are those whose natural abilities/talents don’t necessarily equate with the work they do, so people who do/don’t do certain jobs aren’t necessarily “educated”(in terms of schooling)… but it doesn’t mean that what they’re doing is of no value…case in point, Phil Collins of Genesis, his father disapproved of his going into music, as though it were… “rubbish”… he took a chance, and we all enjoy his/Genesis’ music today. Bill Withers was a mechanical worker at a major airplane manufacturer, and we today think of him as a skilled singer/songwriter. Somewhere along the way, people will look at someone and only see one thing, but inside are totally different. So my point its, that people may choose certain things that are not deemed as “valuable” or “good choices” to us (of course, excluding criminal activity, human rights violations), but the value is theirs , and in time, it may benefit just a few, or more… in time….

What value does Rosa contribute to the village? They can rake up their own rocks and pick up their own sticks, if they feel those tasks are important. They don’t need someone from the USA to come do that. They need doctors and nurses from Lima to come help at the clinic. Rosa is wasting her time, and the villagers’, just to feel good about herself.

Good advice, Gunther! No-one his age should be thinking about girls as in serious. The classes Gunther has to take should come first as they require so much study. And who, BTW, is paying for Gunther’s schooling? He is either taking out college loans, or working on the side, or being lucky enough to win a scholarship. A serious student should join study groups, or participate in lighthearted activities. Whatever, everything needs to be informal, and playful. Its time for Rosa to move on because she is going one way and Gunther another.

“Luann the character is on the worst run in the strip’s history being with Quill because it’s dull. They’ve already played out the “will they-won’t they” sex angle "

You think so? Recall the careful preparations Luann made for intimacy with Quill in her bedroom—when they were interrupted by an unwelcome phone call from Quill’s dad saying they had to depart right away; and Luann’s complaints to Quill more recently that he should spend more time with her and maybe less in the theatre.
