In Gunther’s eyes, it’s almost like the song from Dennis Yost and the Classics IV: “There’s some strange…changes… goin’ on… (♫)” – It’s hard when you’re used to something staying in place all these years- and then, suddenly , you blinked, and were unprepared for something not being in the same place, anymore… – Whether or not they’re dating, Ma Berger’s “layin’ the lumber” on Gunth!….Hittin’him hard with some “soft” wisdom!..

Why does nobody think it strange, that “Mr Gray” isn’t introduced by first name to a group (and why are they not introduced back to him) and that G’s Mom calls him “Mr Gray” instead of “Steve” or “Tony” – is he a cat in human disguise? This whole attitude is creepy – Mr Gray joins Mr Kibbles and Mr Whitey for some tuna.

Because the relationship between Ms. B and Mr. Gray may not be what we’re all speculating it might be. Maybe it’s quite Platonic. Maybe there’s a supervisor/subordinate relationship (which would make that kind of dating very risky). Remember, it was Gunth who rushed to judgement, calling it a “date.” Ms B never did call it t hat.

I await tomorrow’s strip to see the outcome (or the cliffhanger into next time it comes up).

He is being the typical offspring who is unable to accept the parent wants to be with another person than the one who helped that parent to bring in that offspring into the world.Offspring have troubles realizing that in many cases, their parent(s) either have dated before getting with the SO that is the other parent. And or are still dating even after that relationship has ended.

I think calling him “Mr. Gray” in front of the kids is a rather common sort of way of introducing adults to younger people in many backgrounds. It was commonly the way my parents would introduce new people of their age to me even when I was in my mid-late 20s. It is a formal introduction that is meant to be respectful of the person’s age and station in life compared to who he is being introduced to.

The way she’s holding his arm would be inappropriate if it’s strictly platonic.

So would calling him “Mr. Gray,” I’d think, in the same context. I think that the arm holding comfort level is a function of the given society…. ours (USA) being quite a bit more puritanical about “touching/gestures.” Perhaps either Ms. B and/or Mr. Gray have different societal experiences and are comfortable with it at that level.

That said, I do agree though… in a “strictly business” relationship, I would not be comfortable with the arm holding. Hand shakes only… maybe the rare pat on the scapula. Nothing more. No hugs, no cheek pecking (like in Europe), nothing.

Aspberger’s Syndrome is not really a condition that would manifest in this fashion. There would be a relative a) lack of affect, b) far less “shyness” which Gunther shows regularly and is a strong indication of social “awareness” and c) Gunther shows significant artistic ability. These three reasons suggest strongly that Gunther does not have Aspberger’s Syndrome. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Aspberger’s Syndrome is a higher “functioning” form of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Autism is much more associated with social DISENGAGEMENT. To suggest that a person who is shy, “geeky” or not “suave” in social situations must be “Aspberger’s” is quite a bit of a stretch.

Do we know what Mrs. B does for a living? If she and Mr. Gray work in a school setting, she would instinctively refer to him as “Mr. Gray” around young people. And to her, her son’s friends, only recently out of high school, are still young people.

Does Gunther’s mom have a first name? She looks like an Olga, or Gladys. And, although she can’t be very old, she looks that way. With the exception of Luann’s mom, Greg doesn’t age his characters very well: Miss Phelps, Mr, Fogarty, Mr. Grey, and Luann’s dad. Crystal, Rosa, Ann Eiffel, and Luann’s mom could all be hot. Luann, Bernice, Gunther’s mom, and Viper (shudder) have no chemistry. Tiffany is just arm candy, a one night fling.

I could see Edna, Ruth, and Eunice for her name. – It’s funny how sometimes we all go to think “Hmm… maybe this is her name” (In real life), and as soon as you find out what their real name is, you’re like: “I never woulda guessed!”….– Sorta how people feel when they find out Pat Benatar was really Patricia Andrzejewski, or how Cheryl Ladd was really Cheryl Stoppelmoor (German family from North Dakota)….
