There are no experts in infectious disease who advocate blocking all travel from Africa. You’re listening to right-wing pundits and politicians, who are as clueless and reactionary on this as they are on everything from the economy to the environment. It wouldn’t help, and it would do vast damage, like cutting government hiring during a recession. It doesn’t help that we haven’t had a Surgeon General for over a year, since the NRA (who have absolute control over congress) is blocking all nominations.

article at breitbart.com dated 10/15/14 by Tony Lee about the FALSE NIH claim that it didn’t have enough funds for Ebola research. The truth is that NIH budgets have grown (year 2000 $17.84 Billion to 2014 $30.15 Billion.-The problem may be on those directing NIH spending:$2.4 Million for origami condoms designed by a person now under investigation for fraud. Hundreds of thousands for “research” for male fruit flies preferring younger female flies; to create a website for Michelle Obama’s garden; to study poop-throwing chimps for ability to communicate; “research” on husband-wife spats; on drinking habits of age 30-ish partiers.-The Dems claim the GOP “cut NIH budgets” but the fact is that Obama’s budget did the cutting and the GOP House restored 8.2% increase for January 2014 fiscal budget in the $1.1 Trillion US budget. Obama’s budget decreased funds for “Pandemic Preparedness” by $22.5 Million below fiscal year 2014 (Thank You, Obama).-Thanks to the GOP House, CDC’s 2014 budget from Obama’s $6.6 Billion was upped to $6.9 Billion.-The problem lies with the White House and the appointed leadership of NIH and CDC.

Golly, if only we had elected Governor ‘Oops’ Perry, we would already have a ‘free market solution’ to the Ebola problem. -We need to get rid of all them health care strangling regulations.

At least Mr Varvel isn’t blaming Obama for infecting everybody because he’s an African Socialist Muslim.

The CDC made some mistakes, yes. They are still one of the best organizations in this area on the planet.

The VAST majority of Americans at one time wanted slavery. The VAST majority of Americans at this time knows more about the Kardashians than about any real facts regarding Obamacare. We elect a president and a Congress with the hope that they will be smart enough and educated enough to make better decisions than the guy sitting on the barstool next to us. And if our elected representatives think that slavery is a good thing, we have a non-elected court system as one of the checks and balances.

we might’ve HAD a better, more certain containment system, if only we had a Surgeon General—why is it we don’t have a Surgeon General..? Oh that’s right: “somebody” has been working hard to prevent that…

Yes because it is ever so important for the President to have a mouth piece who tells us about the evils of Smoking (Koop the Kook) or the virtues of Masturbation (Elders the eccentric). The Surgeon General is a bully pulpit and hardly a good excuse for the bungling of the CDC.

It is amazing the lengths to which progressives will reach to try to defend their great and powerful O. He has bungled on Ebola, bungled on Isis and now the peanut gallery comes out and tries to explain how it is somehow the Republican’s fault for his incompetence. Grow Up!!!

When a Republican President made a stupid blunder I was quite willing to acknowledge it. I still don’t forgive Bush and Chenny for Torture and other misadventures in the middle east. But according to the Progressives – Obama has never made a mistake. He has just been failed by Republican party that should have acknowledged his godlike aura and just done as they were told (yah right).

I’ll remind you all again that with a hostile and recalcitrant congress – Reagan turned our economy around in 2 years. Because he was willing to lead and compromise. Obama can’t lead and he has failed to compromise. So he will go down in history as Worse then Carter (A hard mark to beat).

I hope that the CDC is learning from its mistakes. We have a margin of error, but it will thin as the disease continues to spread.

I don’t see the point of restricting flights from Africa. For many years we did not allow flights to and from Cuba. How did that work out? If you really wanted to go to Cuba, you could travel to Europe or South American and fly from there. Do you think that someone who really wants to travel to the US from Africa will not do the same?

Well, if they’d asked for emergency funding to be prepared, I’m sure Gary’s heroes in Congress would have blocked the vote.
