Have you ever spent time looking at the little pits in all the acoustic ceiling tiles in school? You can sort of see faces and things in the pattern of random dots. So? Now, I can't un-see them, and I'm constantly aware of the ceiling face looking at me. So. What ever you do, don't look up. Seeya!

Remember the fake wood burl they used to put on high-end fake-good furniture or auto dashboards? Man, there were some creepy ol’ faces hidden in THAT stuff!Might have been some in real wood burl too. I’m not sure I ever saw any of that.

@Greg CravenIf you start seeing faces in the forest do not panic they are only dryads. If you leave quietly they will not try to lure you deeper into the forest. Now can I interest you in some good farm land in Lake Michigan?

@Greg, I remember doing that. Faces somehow seem to be the easiest thing for the brain to start seeing in the patterns.

I think what we’re discussing today is simpler than that. The human brain is hardwired for a few things. One of them is to look for human faces- an important facility to have if you want to recognize your parents and all. The unfortunate upside to having a facility for recognizing faces is that you also have a tendency to see them where they aren’t- the oddly shaped mountain shadows on the moon, for instance. Seeing a face there is just a by-product of our deeply instinctive ability to recognize people.
