There’s a classic “Andy Capp” where Andy, staggering back from his usual late night, has his key in a funnel, trying to fit it into the lock with that little bit of help. I wonder if Andrew Jackson ever did that……….
Godfreydaniel: In Jackson’s day, people could (and did) drop by at almost any time. I think The Residency was off limits, but can’t document it. Secret Service came much later – as they do today..Sam Rayburn would sit on his front porch as an invitation to come by and talk politics. That porch was about 50 feet from a US highway. Can you imagine the SS permitting that today – or the current Speaker wanting to talk to The People?
JFK, Reagan, two different shooters at Ford, nobody blamed the Secret Service, or those admnistrations for failures, because, well, nut cases in America “just can’t be stopped”.
Iraq, Afghanistan, and the worst administration in U.S. history, foreign policy creating more enemies to hate us, economic policies just shy of the Great Depression creators who were also several “Republican” conservative administrations in a row (Pete and repeat?), yet everything, and anything Obama does, even when it’s what the media, Republicans, or chickenhawks have been calling for, it’s all his faillures, even if some idiot in Pudunk, Iowa forgets to take the garbage out.
In this case, Secret Service and U.S. Park Police did their job, no harm no foul to the client, and the threat was assessed, the guy was arrested, not killed.
Which, speaking of Reagan briefly, let’s fight all elements of the “Brady Bill”, open access to firearms, and give more nuts, and just “admirable patriots”, yet more guns, without restrictions, so we can all be “safer”.
@Night-Gaunt49Ordinarily I’m the farthest thing in the world from a Typo Nazi (and for that matter I usually enjoy your posts!), but I can’t help pointing out “Special Solders”. I can picture a Monty Python sketch about “Special Solders”……
