Baghdad 2014
Woman: Veterans of the U.S. invasion army are finding the Civil War they caused and the collapse of the puppet they installed emotionally wrenching.
Man: Cry me a river.
Once again, the brave Ted Rall attacks the waiters instead of the cooks. Tell us again how women whose husbands died at the WTC should be hated for being sad, Ted.
Tj, remind me… how many Iraqis were involved in the WTC? None, sticks in my mind. They were Saudis (our buddies, who we support unconditionally.) Repeating nonsense does not make it true.
I don’l intend to justify Sadam Hussein in any way when I say that he kept the lid on the civil war that was always simmering under the surface. It’s hard math to decide if his regime was better or worse than what has followed. In any case, I don’t believe that the US is in a good position to solve the problems in Iraq (or in Syria, or in Egypt, or in…). Things will get worse before they get better.
One really should visit Ted’s website for an understanding of this depiction. There he explains:“As Iraq spirals into sectarian civil war, one of the recurring stories on American media outlets is the mixed feelings of the American veterans who served in the invasion and subsequent occupation. While it’s understandable that they are wondering whether their sacrifices were worth it (hint: no way), shouldn’t we be giving at least equal time to the Iraqis who are living through the consequences of our war there?”.in other words, the cartoon depicts the point of view of the Iraqis, who are reading news reports and blaming the U.S. for the current civil war..Those who claim that Ted is saying the soldiers “caused” this are doing him an injustice.
Agreed that veterans won the day, but disagree that Bush/Rumsfeld “blew” it. As you may recall, President Bush left a relatively stable Iraq to his successor, a fact which President Obama acknowledged when he declared victory in 2012.

“It is a disgusting to say the veterans “caused” this. They obeyed their orders and did a great job.”
Insert typical ‘but the Nazis soldiers only obeyed their orders too!’ type of argument here.

Hey Ted, if you hurry, you can still get to a major airport and spit on some troops as they come home.
