Actually, despite the intent, this ’toon IS funny!

One thing that would be a big improvement is to put a rifle in the hands of all the war-hawks and send them ashore in the first wave. We also should have a special tax for them to pay for future wars.

There’s only so much a president can do when the other countries know that the congress will sabotage any act of sanity on his part.

My brother was in Viet Nam, and my father was career Air Force and served in WWll, Korea, and Viet Nam. I lost friends in Viet Nam. When you join the service you accept the deal that you get career training and a nice line on your resume. In return you agree that eventually there is probably going to be a situation when someone is shooting at you.

But, with this President, there is also the assurance that it is less likely to happen because it will only be when every other possible option has been exhausted. That’s really something that has been owed to every serviceman since Valley Forge, and this is the first one that actually delivered.

Some folks on the right don’t distort history, they just make it up. They take lines fabricated in the last 30 years and stick them into the mouths of founding fathers as “quotations” and then print them up on t-shirts and bumper stickers.But they have also proven the observation that if you repeat the same lie often enough, people will come to believe it.I am not talking about the leaders of the GOP, they are generally a bit more careful, but the flood of right-wing propaganda that has emerged in recent decades with no one in particular taking credit for it.History is a jigsaw puzzle missing half the pieces. Different people arrange the pieces in different ways, and will in the blanks in different ways, and draw attention to different pieces. That’s why there will always be new retellings of history different from the old ones. And different conclusions or understandings drawn from the same facts. The problems arise when people make up facts (see above) and/or ignore the complexities of events to tell simple moral tales of good guys and bad guys. That is not revisionism, it is deception. Unfortunately too many people learned the only history they know when they were children, and think anyone who presents something more complex or less moralistic is just a “revisionist.” Any historian worth his salt is a revisionist. If you can’t find anything new to say or to tell about history, then you have no business being an historian. You should just be a librarian.
