Nice dream, but it will never happen. Too many vested interests are agin it.

Due to the Elections Act – Parliament must sit (convene) at least once in a 12 month period. Therefore, in Canada:.36 days is the shortest election campaign period.74 days is the longest election campaign period. .Sorry. Can’t seem to do anything about spending limits.

@Clark Kent We have a Socialist party already – it is the current Democratic party which has been hi-jacked by the far left!

Anyway, America is no longer a democracy. It crossed the line to oligarchy.

We can thank the Supreme Court for that.

there’s nothing wrong with competing powers spending their money trying to convince us to vote for their candidates. We still ultimately decide unless they are directly paying us for votes. The anynomous part of the spending is not the cause of the supreme court, but of the legislators who like the situation.

There are spending limits in place in Canada. But I believe there are ways around those limits. Informational spots do very well.

“No outside money in any way shape or form. Elections should last one month or less.”.Candidates Smith and Jones are running. If Smith is elected, his proposals will help me sell all the corn I can grow at a high price. I grow corn so I put up a sign saying SMITH FOR PRESIDENT AND BETTER CORN SALES..My neighbor does not grow corn but he buys corn flakes and wants them cheaply. If Jones is elected, his proposals will result in cheap corn for him. He spends $100 for a sign saying JONES FOR PRESIDENT AND CHEAP CORN..We put our signs up two months before the vote..Under your proposal, we are in violation of federal campaign laws by putting up our signs early and for paying for them out of our own pockets rather than with taxpayer money..We also exercised our freedom of speech by saying what we thought when we wanted. You would fine or jail us for doing so..Please reconsider

It is interesting that a professed socialist would take away our basic freedoms.

So, all of you with your political comments: Are you folks running for office anywhere? How’s that working for you?

The key to getting spending under control is your third suggestion—limiting the length of the campaign. With modern telecommunications, where everything seems to be known almost instantly, there’s no need for presidential campaigns to take years or even many months. 60 days at the most.

Wish our current leader was only a fink. That wouldn’t then be so bad.
