Wow. So you dismiss bigotry as simply being “politically incorrect”? The point of the cartoon just bounced right off your forehead, didn’t it.

I think bullies and bigots have a right, except when it comes to stepping on my rights, and lying to confuse the public. There are a lot of people out there who are not very discerning or educated who can vote. It’s pure manipulation in a lot of cases.

Why do so many people fail to understand the difference between the right to be free from legal or governmental restriction on speech (a right guaranteed by the first amendment) and some privilege granted where you are protected from all social disapproval, reaction, or consequences from other private citizens or entities (NOT a right)?

Sure, go ahead and exercise your free speech rights to be a bigoted a-hole. Now, I will exercise MY free speech rights by saying “I disagree with you,” “I don’t want you representing my brand,” “I don’t want to pay you to say this crap,” “I don’t want to support you by buying your product,” and/or “I think you’re an a-hole.”

Complaints about the “PC-police” are very often just people who’ve lost a tiny bit of the privilege they’ve long taken for granted, and are now whining that they no longer get to be mean and rude without any disagreement or consequences.

Meanwhile, back at the cartoon…..Look folks, here’s an example of why Miller won the Reuben Award. The last panel. After the pregnant pause. Many cartoonists would have had the guys break out in laughter. Yeah, and it really would be pretty funny….But Wiley didn’t go there did he? Anybody here think it didn’t cross his mind? He’s just better than that….On the philosophical side, calliopejane pretty much nailed it…..

The Republicans in congress are doing their job very well. If they can’t accomplish anything that Obama won’t veto, then they can stall so that the Democrats can’t accomplish anything either. Their intention is to keep everything just as it is, unless they can manage to return to the “good old days” of the 19th century, before there was a middle class and when only the landed gentry were voters. And, they have a great strategy for accomplishing this. 1. Disenfranchise everyone you possibly can, unless they are dependable Republican voters.2. Produce ads and media emphasis which emphasizes those politicians who are corrupt and incompetent. Paint all Democrats with the same slime. Lacking sufficient actual slime, simply make some up. This undermines the people’s trust in their government and makes them feel like helpless pawns, so they tune out the whole process and accept the status quo. 3. Support the “job creators”, who are the recipients of a huge portion of the GNP, although that GNP was produced by working people, who are receiving less benefit from it every day. This gives them the money to accomplish the other two goals, and leaves everyone except the “job creators” with increasingly less money to mount a counter campaign. So, this is the way we are going lose the middle class and become a country inhabited only by the very rich 1%, and a 99% who are too busy working two jobs to survive to notice.

Good heavens…was this really so difficult for some of you to understand? Or did you really understand it, but don’t want to own up to your own bigoted attitude? The First Amendment guarantees your freedom to say anything you want…protection from the GOVERNMENT. You are free to express whatever bigoted thing you want, any time you want. What it doesn’t protect you from is the reaction and consequences by others in society who reject your bigotry. This cartoon was, I presume, based on Donald Sterling. The government didn’t come down on him, the NBA and the players throughout the league did.

“One of their best, Hillary Clinton has now said she is running.”I would recommend that she pick her slogan for the 2016 campaign carefully. It should reflect her competence and accomplishments.I would recommend something like:“Might as well vote for Hillary. After all, what difference does it make now?”

Donald Sterling is having the last laugh. His NBA team is about to be sold for nearly double what it was estimated to be worth a couple of months ago — a 15,000% profit over what he paid for it 30 years ago. In addition, the profits might be tax free — because it was a “forced sale”. If he wins that one, the NBA did him a huge favor, when it banned him. A $300 million + favor.

If you want to know the truth – Donald Sterling would Never be truly accepted into that world no matter how rich he is because he’s Jewish. In their world, it’s not just White Property-Owning Male Privilege, it’s White Property-Owning CHRISTIAN Male Privilege! His behavior feeds into bigots’ Jewish stereotype.

Antisemitism, like all bigotries, trumps money!

“I may disagree with what you say, but will defend to my death your right to say it.” The real tragedy here is not that Sterling expressed his thoughts— however ugly they might be— but that his privacy was violated. Let’s compare his actions to his words. What did he do as an NBA owner that would have amounted to bias in the work place and consequently be seen as illegal? To the contrary, his generosity is well documented. As it turns out, he is crying all the way to the bank.

Surely the most respected Republican is Thomas Sowell, but he is respected only by conservatives. The ideological disrespect is based entirely on his race, as I have never seen a leftist challenge the substance of his arguments. But then I have never seen a substantial leftist argument – it is all invective and epithet, based on false stereotypes, as demonstrated by the comic today.

@hi hoYou can express your opinion all you want. The mistake is in thinking that bigoted or ignorant opinions should be given any weight just because it’s “your opinion”. Freedom means everyone has a right to an opinion, it doesn’t save an opinion from being dismissed by people with compassion and intelligence.

You can’t “know your enemy” if he doesn’t tip his hand occasionally. On the one hand, there’s the glee at stomping them down at the first slip, but that causes worse cases to clam up and be harder to discover/root out.It is, a conundrum.

Keenanthelibrarian, by the fact that you are allowed to disagree with him, you agree with him… because it is your Freedom of Speech to do so… Arguably then, you disagree with yourself. Notably, the U.S. President is one of the most racist people, saying that all white people who don’t agree with him should be silenced.
