Looks like we’re at Appomattox… and ‘terms of surrender’ are non-negotiable! – This discussion could be about a cell phone plan: the customers aren’t valued, there’s too much roaming, and a lot of shrinkage… or someone finds their calls are getting dropped, minutes are getting expensive, and an ‘upgrade’ means something different to one than the other…. – This doesn’t seem like the time to go up and ask either one of them for five bucks, is it?

Interesting all of you are picking on LuAnn. She is supposed to be satisfied with whatever bone he wants to throw her? He doesn’t sound concerned at all about her concerns. Sounded as if he was in no hurry yesterday. Couldn’t even see she already had a coffee. Work Is important. But, not as important as the one you claim to love! He needs to forget about women until he is grown enough to realize that work won’t keep you warm at night.

Well, this isn’t good at all for Lu & Q. I guess the question then becomes, who becomes the “dumper” vs. the “dumpee…”

I’m leaning more towards Q dumping Lu. I think it will lend much more drama to the story than if Lu dumps him. Then she can kvetch about it for the next few strips. Hopefully, the people that surround her will set her straight. It just seems like she’s not going to get out of her funk for a while, so she has to accept responsibility for the consequences.

There seems to be quite a change in reaction herein from the previous time that Luann pulled this “You never think about me!” tantrum. Last time, a lot of the posted comments were denouncing Quill as a terrible, terrible person because he doesn’t spend 24/7 obsessing over Luann. Has that change in reaction come about because people are finally getting fed up with Luann’s constant whining and want her simply to get over herself, or is it because they are so bored with Quill that they can’t be bothered even to be angry at him any more?

Wow. From the comments on here I am not surprised that so many marriages end up the way they do!(40+ year old happy relationship and marriage here that started in High School.)

They BOTH have a point and they BOTH need to work at this. Luann has every right to expect to be treated with more consideration and importance in Quill’s life. (Maybe he can at least TRY to not leave her hanging and call when he has to?) Quill has every right to expect Luann to care about and take more interest in his chosen career. They would both need to show more caring about the other if this were a real relationship for it to last and be strong.

“Now if you don’t like him messing up storylines worn a character he feels forced to use, that’s not his fault.”-—————————————————It IS Evans’ fault; he created the character, but couldn’t be bothered to write properly for it. Quill’s a fairly stable, non-malicious, Delta-like personality (and when’s the last time he wrote for her [and I don’t mean the “Fo-getty Flashback”], he didn’t even finish her prom storyline). Perhaps because of this distinctive contrast to the stock “prat-fall” bunch, Quill became a favorite that Evans couldn’t just make “dsappear” when the easy jokes didn’t come to him.Right now, Luann is acting like a snot because she’s not at Quill’s emotional level and is trying to drag him down to hers, risking losing ALL her time with Quill.Quill’s someone more likely to get Luann to move past the petty part of her personality (like, who was jealous when Gunther found Rosa after Luann had rejected him AGAIN?). moreso than advice from her mom or Mrs. Horner. In that same manner; if Evans can’t work up a solution that doesn’t involve simply making a character disappear, maybe Karen’s perspective can get it worked out.

The discussion of “how much time can/should we spend together” is one that certainly should be had, at a time when it can be calmly discussed with acknowledgement of both parties’ needs and goals. Luann is screwing it up by bringing trying to have that large conversation now, when there is an immediate smaller irritation setting the wrong tone for the important discussion.

Let’s first deal with what I consider a valid complaint:“Hey Quill, if you’re running late, I’d really appreciate it if you’d shoot me a text so I don’t worry that you’ve forgotten our date or gotten hit by a car, ok?”

THEN, let’s have the serious discussion about future plans.

I am with Luann. Quill has a pattern of being late and not having any remorse. She needs to find someone who values her time. This has nothing to do with the fact that she also needs to grow up and be someone. Yes they are growing apart as well. Quill probably would be on time for someone who was capturing his interest.

They are both too young – Quill is level headed enough to know he is just learning his career and it is important to train. At least he knows what he wants in his life’s work. Luann, on the other hand, has absolutely no idea what she wants to do with her life (other than having a boy paying attention to her all the time). The timing is not right. Luann has a lot of growing up to do yet. Unless Luann and Quill learn to compromise, they are doomed. Also, Quill wants to be a actor which means NY or Hollywood. I don’t see Luann leaving Pittsville yet.

Just as we think Luanne is finally growing up, down she goes again. Now picking fights over nothing at all. She is mature just as long as her boyfriend remains without flaw and all her needs are being met. Since Quill has no time for self-centered women, he should move on. Let her go sobbing to Mrs. Horner what a victim she is because no one cares about her needs.

Oh, they’re communicating, alright! No holding back their “core issues”, here! The failure here is their inability to “meet in the middle”. This is to be expected, though. Compromise is an art that’s not learned overnight, unless one learns to appreciate it at a tender age. – Oh, the value of trade offs/give and take, and to view others (as well as themselves) objectively…. -I fear, though, that both parties feel that their positions are “non negotiable”….. and in a way, that is fair. At their current stances, they are showing what is valuable to them. It’s fair, as they are both communicating their positions and seem at this point to not have any room for other concessions. At this point, maybe both are prepared… to :seek opportunities elsewhere…

Unless Quill has cancelled on her a bunch, and it’s “one week here, then a month gone missing”, I would think that he does make reasonable efforts. – In real life, I wouldn’t want to tell two people to “stay together” or “break up”. My advice would just be to both of them to step back, and find an objective (and GREAT emphasis on objective) voice to help sort out the right way to proceed, or if either are “putting stock in the right things” or even whether or not this should be a “make or break” issue….

Very interesting that most comments here are slamming Luann and not Quill. His attitude (not alone among theater people) shows why love relationships, married or not, don’t last. One party is put on the shelf and dusted off only when wanted.

Luann has a right to be pissed, and Quill is an inconsiderate self absorbed ass. That is not to say Luann often is, too.

We have seen no incidences of Quill’s refusing to see Luann. (However, on what would have been an ideal occasion for them to spend a lot of time together, namely the Thanksgiving holiday, she left him behind so that she could take a long tour of a bunch of colleges, only to conclude after she got back that there was really no reason for the trip and she wouldn’t attend any of them.) Today Quill is running 20 minutes late, but that’s sufficient to provoke her wrath. Luann is “high maintenance”, to say the least.

That’s a strange way to tell me you love me When your sorrow is all I can see If you just want to cry to somebodyDon’t cry to meNo, don’t cry to me….

LUANN!!Grow UP!You’re almost a High-School Graduate, theoretically going to COLLEGE (well, okay – Community College; J.C. as they used to call it, back in the Fifties and SIxties, there in CA) and you should get some maturity into your head. Stop being such a Tiffany about Quill. YES, he’s supposedly your boyfriend – does that make him your SLAVE? NO! He has a JOB, a Career, and hopefully, if you ever expect to marry him and have him support you, a FUTURE to build so he CAN support you – or do YOU expect to support HIM as he builds HIS acting career?Yeah; RIGHT.

“Also, she doesn’t love Quill. If she did, she’d be happy he’s working towards his dream. The only person Luann loves is Luann.”

    So true!

Luann needs a drop kick through the goalposts of life…before she kicks Quill out of hers permanently.

That’s right, Luann, keep on complaining. Meanwhile, Tiff is swishing her considerable goodies at him and she will happily sleep with him, unlike you.
