For a Quaker, Nixon had a colorful vocabulary. Must’ve picked it up in the Navy.

Nixon’s mother was a Quaker tho Nixon was obviously not a practicing one. When Eisenhower/Nixon were elected in ’52, I believe it was Nixon who said with words to the effect, “Decent language has returned to the White House”, because Truman also had used colorful language.

I remember reading this series originally and a local Chicago talk show starting with the following ditty:

“Come, come, come and play spy with me,Down at the old Watergate;Come, come, come live and lie with me,Down at the old Watergate.See the little German band,Ehrlichman and Haldeman;Don’t Martha Mitchell look great?Come, come, come don’t be shy with me;I’ll have the whole FBI with me;Down at the old Water—we’ll make the police blotter —Down at the old Watergate.”

[Sung to the tune of an old English pub song, “Down at the Olde Bull and Bush.” The Congressman also fancies himself a pianist.]

Words by William L. HungateU. S. Congressman (Democrat, MO)1973

Eisenhower was pretty mild-spoken for a career military man. Low bar though that may be.

Speaking of megalomania, the White House police wore uniforms similar to most police agencies, such as can be seen on Adam 12. If I remember correctly, Nixon had the uniforms changed to resemble palace guards within his first year of office. I remember thinking to myself, “What’s this guy got on his mind?”

Apparently Nixon was also a skilled poker player. I learned that on Pawn Stars, where I get all my facts.

I THINK this was the first time the word “damn” appeared in a daily comic strip. It was surprising to see, in any case.

The missing 18 minutes was a particularly creative expletive deleted.

So now Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot aren’t radical enough, now we have to compare him to Nixon? How evil can one man be?

You think there is not enough going on in Washington today…..you really have to go back to the Nixon era?

I am sure there weren’t just swear words on the missing 18 minutes. We saw that there was plenty of swearing going on anyway. The bit by Hungate brought back memories. Hungate was something else.

Katie- Katharine Graham, Washington Post publisher. Leon Jaworski - special prosecutor during Watergate. Peter Rodino- chairman of House Judiciary committee, which led the impeachment proceedings during Watergate. I don’t remember about the IRS connection. People are often critical of the IRS.

I see there is a line drawn through some of my words. It was not intentional, I have no idea why the line is there. Sorry. Did i hit the dash bar too many times? Perhaps that is why.

At least you can still read the words. They are all correct in terms of history.
