Because paying a $95 penalty and loading the taxpayers with debt when you take your uninsured broken leg to the ER is so much more fair than having some insurance of your own. This is the Cliven Bundy Economic Theory — it’s not “freeloading” when someone you like is ripping off taxpayers.

You obviously don’t understand how insurance works.

We pay for a lot we don’t use through taxes, and don’t complain since we do not mind considering it helps the entire country. I just guess people who don’t are selfish jerks …

This is exactly the way group insurance works through your employer – if you’re lucky enough to still get insurance through your employer. Why isn’t Stantis whining about the unfairness of that?

Leftists require other people to adhere to their preferences, even when they except themselves and their sycophants (maybe that should be psychophants.) It is the leftist way. Decent people believe in individual freedom of choice and personal responsibility.

I was called a liar for writing this before, but here goes again….my husband lost his job but was fortunate to get a good consulting gig. It has no benefits. I took his pay to the ACA site before enrollment closed and used the worksheet to see what plans we could afford. The bronze plan was more than we could afford to take out of our current income, but we did not qualify for subsidies; and even if we took the plan, the deductible was the same as having no insurance at all. So we’ll pay the penalty and hope that the consultancy becomes a permanent job. So while one class of uninsured is now insured, there is now an OTHER class of uninsureds. I’m not complaining; I guess you could say it’s our turn (this thought saves my sanity, so please don’t disabuse me of it.) But, PLEASE, Mr. Obama, don’t tell me that this is the Great Insurance Fix and DON’T tell me you know what’s best for me.

Decent people believe that you don’t FORCE others to help. Forcing anyone to do anything is tyranny. I love how the left constantly talks about how we should help others, yet, the left year after year, donates less to charity than the right. They want to help others, just not with their own money.
