When you have a unicorn who needs video games?

Commentators in the 1980s were predicting (hoping) that video games would become passe. I guess they were right for some people.

Her dad is smart. That could avoid problems down the road.

You two are crazy! Is your mom crazy too? I wonder.

Being slightly counter-culture can definitely be useful.

I respect that decision. I still play video games sometimes, but I avoid MMORPGs. Those have the most serious addicts.

I say Phoebe didn’t care what she was rebelling against, so long as she had something to rebel against and get away with it without consequences. Her dad just provided the solution.

If he was seriously about having her stay up all night to play video games (and I don’t think he was), Phoebe probably would’ve been all for it, because we’ve had plenty of instances in the comic’s run where she’s very pro-video game/relying on technology for amusement in general.
