The latest story is that more and more young people ARE buying into the system. But of course, the best way would be to simply cover everyone by a govt program like in Canada or France – no need for an “insurer” other than the govt; In both countires it works very well. In France especially. But try and tell that to a Republican or a Tea-Partier and they will foam at the mouth and scream “Socialism”… as if having the worst health care system in the Western world is worse than a little socilaism. When more Americans die in childbirth than Cubans because they can’t afford proper prenatal care, it is time to stop worrying about bogeymen like “socialism” and adopt something that will cover everyone.
Mine would be to roll out a steady stream of incremental reforms so that the health care system and the economy have time to adjust while permitting changes to begin with reasonable speed.
