Okay… Here’s that pretzel, coming up!!… A salted, with a twist!!!…-So, I take it, there’s still some more “soap” in the wash?… – Will Gunther’s “stand-up routine” sit well with Les?… Is there a purpose in his proposal?…Is that his way of “buttering Rosa up”?… – Could this possibly be the “law of uninended consequences”, coming back to bite everyone (including Crystal) on the butt?…Will it lead to a “rash” of bad things?….

The next words out of Gunther’s mouth need to be “I’m taking her.”

That shuts Leslie up AND gets him in good with Rosa.

Is it possible that Gunth is actually capable of taking care of himself in a physical altercation?? Has he been secretly learning a martial art? Will he beat up on Les or visa versa? In either case, Rosa will love him forever!

To bad this will take a few days to play out, I’m looking forward to Gunther winning.

tomorrow: Rosa says NO, Gunther says something, Les pokes Gunther in the chest with a threat.

Next day: one of two things: 1) we find that Gunther musters up some inner strength and clocks Les, thus impressing Rosa as her hero. or 2) Gunther gets his head handed to him by Les, still impressing Rosa for getting his new found confidence against insurmountable odds of beating Les.

For Gunther its a Win-Win with Rosa, only with or without bruises.

It is possible Gunther’s negative response was not forbidding Rosa to say YES but simply the response to seeing something bad such as a child on TV running obliviously toward the rattlesnake..I admit it would not be in keeping with the previous panels. It is interesting that Rosa’s expression doesn’t look receptive, especially considering that her previous interaction involved getting her books knocked out of her hands..Note: schools need to make all textbooks offered available in electronic format. All the textbooks used in the state of Florida should easily fit on a single tablet. Royalties could be paid according to usage, errors could be corrected on the fly, additions due to new knowledge could be wified in, kids could read ahead or review, some books need not be replaced but rather retained if the only reason to replace them was torn pages, erotic art or too many lost. No need to hand books out for each class at the beginning of the year, no reason to collect those which remained at the end. Far less load to lug along.

I don’t think it is a matter of stupidity, rather intentionally misunderstanding. It’s fun to do.Sometimes I am walking somewhere and someone gives a wolf-whistle for some girl near me. Pretending to misunderstand, I respond, “Thank you, thank you very much.”It has left a few whistlers red faced and scared to do it again.

Not cost effective.Sure they are.Electronic rights can be part of the bid if the publishers know it will mean income for them.(You don’t make deals with those won’t deal, so whether they like or not isn’t the determining factor, especially since most are already dealing.)Cost of one physical book is far above cost of many tablets — even if the schools DO decide to provide the tablets.

Woof! This story is really getting complex by having so many characters interacting. It’s intriguing, although Knute & Crystal and Gunther & Rosa do not interest me as much as Quill & Luann or Brad & Toni. I really would like to see some sort of “male presence” in the life of Berrnice. Still, this comic strip’s flaws are quite minor compared to so many others. I have been reading newspaper strips all my life (I’m 61), and, in my humble opinion, there have only been two that I consider “perfect,” meaning above any sort of criticism. They are “Calvin and Hobbes,” from the past, and “Get Fuzzy” from the present.

I might add that, of current comics, I consider “Piranha Club” and “Lio” to be at a high level of excellence. However, there are comics that I have read and enjoyed that are absolutely full of flaws— yes, I will come out and openly admit that I have been following “Mark Trail” for decades…
