Apparently only Israel gets to have nuclear weapons in the Middle East; they just want to use us as their catspaw to punish the Iranians, so they don’t have to — this time. This is a country, whatever its other virtues, that bombed a sovereign nation unilaterally because they didn’t like what they were doing with their nuclear research. If the Iranians had done that to someone else, we’d have invaded.

@AdrianProbably not, except if Israel is in danger of losing to an invader.

But it has a legitimate fear of conventional attack by the US (at the behest of Israel and/or Saudi Arabia), especially if both legislative houses and the executive branch are “R”.

So, Doc, just curious… Which Iranian supported terrorist group is your favorite? Hezbollah? Islamic Jihad? Enquiring minds want to know!

Thank you for the reply..Unfortunately, being supportive of a people, Iranians, Palestinians, Israelis, whoever, in the realm of politics is largely a meaningless gesture. It is the government of these peoples that matters when it comes to politics.I hate to use this example but it makes things obvious: Saying you support a people but making no effort to oppose their government when such should be the case is akin to saying you like and support the German people but it’s unfortunate that Hitler and the Nazis are leading them at the moment. The Israelis and their government may be jerks or whatever but they are not calling for the extermination of their neighbors nor do they actively recruit and support terrorist groups in those countries. On the other hand, Iran and Syria (until their civil war) did openly support terrorist groups throughout the Middle East. The major obstacle to a Palestinian state are Palestinians because of what is essentially tribalism and terrorism that most closely resembles organized criminal street gangs.Iran needs a regieme change and it would be best if the Iranian people made that happen. The Shah was bad but the Ayatollahs are worse.Of course police states in the Middle East are hardly uncommon. Saudi Arabia is another one (and one I would not like to have to be in again if possible) that is repressive on a Medieval level of repression. In the end, there is no simple solution to the mess in the Middle East and if it wasn’t for oil nobody would care. But that isn’t the case so the world has to end up trying to be the adult in the room with all the juvenille deliquents of the Middle East.

The next time Thanksgiving and the first day of Hanukkah are on the same day will be in 79,000 years. Make the most of tomorrow.

“Hanukkah begins today, 27 Nov; Thanksgiving is tomorrow, 28 Nov. Must be quoting another one of your “facts” eh, King?”

He may be partly wrong, but he is equally partly right. The Jewish “day” starts at sundown and ends at sundown the next day, so although Hanukkah starts tonight, officially the first day falls both on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28.

    It’s a holiday. Be nice.

Doctor Warbucks: agree with your comment on terrorists, that included radical Zionists. “The Sword and the Olive” is a realistic look at the IDF history, including all the early terrorist groups led by such as Begin, Sharon, et al.

The lesson of history is to see reality, and ALL side, as there may be many, and not just “black and white” either with regard to values and morality.

<The difference is in recognizing that hero worship of the wrong side, or values, even though they may reform later, cannot totally remove from them blame that’s often appropriate. Also, the propensity for revenge, over what happened 60, 600, or 3,000 years ago, is NOT “civilized” mindset.

“The only democracy in the region, surrounded by people openly saying “push them into the sea” and half you evil, brain-dead fools still can’t see why they are forced to extremism? … I stand with Israel.”Israel? The country that seized a large chunk of land from it’s neighbor during a “war,” then proceeded to forcibly evict Muslim inhabitants so they can tare down their homes to build new homes for Israelis? Now why would their neighbors want to drive a nation like that into the sea?
