Since the money people spend shopping on Thanksgiving is money they won’t have to spend on Black Friday, it doesn’t enrich the retailers as a whole by a red cent. But if I open my store and on one else does, I’ll get their business. Only now, we’ll all be open, so we won’t make any net money. Fortunately, we aren’t going to pay our workers any extra for just dong their jobs, so it’s not going to cost us anything.

I live by myself, with no family close, and no really close neighbors, but I’ll be DAMNED if I will go shopping today, OR tomorrow, just as a matter of principal!

Agreed. I’d rather watch a documentary on the history of knitting than be at a mall today or tomorrow.
    Fortunately there’s Football on though.

phredturner,Would you prefer having a nice little human sacrifice, burning a few other people at the stake in the town square, as an "Auto da Fe" - "Act of Faith", in English?^Or maybe, having demonized the Native American as nothing more than a "%&# redskin", you would enjoy a little massacre, down Sand Creek way in Colorado, where there’s a whole peaceful encampment of them. The Methodist Preacher, Colonel Chivington, is getting up a party for that right now.
And of course, one can murder a few “%&@# yankee Civil Rights workers”, and bury them in the dirt walls of a holding pond. That’s right on, and perfectly in line, with the Southern Presbyterian Preacher’s teaching that, “N-word don’t have souls. They’re not even human beings; just a kind of trainable ape”, that still permeates the atmosphere.
    Or . . . ?
Somehow, I don’t really think “consumerism” is all that bad, as a cult, by comparison.

I generally avoid fast food, but I’d try that meal. I’m not sure about a cranberry shake though. Maybe as cranberry soda.

It has been “progressing” or morphing into this since day one…But, the consumer still does not rule the roost ; he still has to buy what little selection marketers deem to sell. There is still NO direct communications between buyer and seller….so its mostly a guess….and, ever so slowly, a better guess..
