Must the visions of sugar plums still dancing in their adult heads.

I stayed with my cousin’s family when I was in college. Christmas eve, we went to evening service with the kids (she had 4), then lit our advent candles, read the Christmas story and Night Before Christmas to the kids, got them to bed, got the sitter, went back to church for the midnight service where we sang in the choir , then back home to fill the stockings, put out the Santa gifts, and mix up apple kuchen so it could rise overnight & be ready to bake for breakfast. When we fell into bed at 2 or 3 am, we had NO trouble falling asleep…particularly since we knew the kids would be awake at the crack of dawn! (Fortunately, the rule was: play quietly with stocking gifts until 7am, and we made sure the stocking gifts had plenty of quiet play toys)

Oh gosh, when our kids were the age of Mike and Elizabeth, sleeping was a fond dream…maybe at the crack of dawn, just before they all woke up to see if Santa had come. Putting together bikes, hot wheels, and especially remember the toy kitchen for our daughters..THAT had at least a thousand screws and washer, it seemed, and the instructions were in Chinese. LOL. Honestly, I miss those days…sigh.

My brother and I would sneak downstairs long before dawn. It was way too dark to read tags, but we’d check out the size of the packages and try to guess who the biggest ones were for (as kids, we always assumed the biggest packages were the best). Then we’d go back upstairs and try to wait. We weren’t allowed to open anything until my parents were up and my Dad had coffee.

in our house Santa never wrapped his gifts, so they were easy to spot. I remember the Christmas we all got bikes, my sister woke everyone up about 3am but mom made us go back to bed, so she took her bike back to bed with her, she slept with right beside her bed……..lol fun times.

A 20-30 minute round of canoodling will tire you out enough to sleep. hehe

And I had a landlady once whose parents were even stricter when she was a little girl. In her family, everyone had to be up and dressed, the beds all had to have been made, and everyone had to have finished breakfast before any presents could be opened!
