Old Honeymooners gag: Ralph: Just remember Alice! I’m the Boss. You’re nothing. I’m the BOSS! You’re NOTHING!Alice: Big deal! That makes you boss over nothing!
If that’s supposed to be a Sam Browne belt—-and Mr. Schulz’s reminiscences make it clear this is drawn straight from his schooldays—-I doubt very much if it would be bright red.
Thank you everybody for refraining to give any spoilers today. And I want to encourage everyone to please, please, refrain from posting spoilers in the future. It’s not like a “The Lord of the Rings” or another best seller that’s been made into a movie. Many of us haven’t read these strips in decades and we’ve simply forgotten how the story arcs play out. It’s fun to read them as if they were brand new. So, please, no spoilers in the future, okay? Thank you.
We had the crossing guards, and the belts were an off-white. Some intersections had a kid for each side, or one for each corner of an intersection. The strips are being newly colored, and have nothing to do with Schulz’ vision. Third party coloring is often full of mistakes.
I don’t know when the role of student crossing guard was phased out, but eventually it was replaced entirely by adults in striped vests; often retirees.
@prasrinivara I couldn’t agree more. In the past, I’ve been criticized for criticizing the colorization. The sunday strips were obviously in color, the dailies NEVER were. I can’t speak as to whether or not the pre-Woodstock birds were blue or not in the Sunday strips…but for anyone to pass judgement on the dailies is just plain wrong. Dailies were never in color, and for Go Comics or anyone to arbitrarily decide what and when to color panels is a mistake, in my personal opinion. I would love to see the strips in their original form on weekdays – unfortunately, that probably isn’t going to happen. I’m just happy to be able to read the strips regularly.
Is there any way to search for a particular strip? Years ago Snoopy was on the doghouse roof with his typewriter writing a Paean to a Golden Retriever. A friend just lost her GR and I think the strip would cheer her up.
Ahhhh! Grade school crossing guard prestige! Never made it myself. They don’t use students for that anymore around here. It would actually be shocking to see a grade school kid out in the street stopping traffic now a days. The adult crossing guards are well paid, too.
I did this in grade school. My pointer would walk out with me and stand in the street. He would then go back and wait with me. After school let in, he walked home. Sadly, I never got pictures.
@russell5419 I’m far too lazy to be bothered to push the proper slide control on and off for that purpose. I’m more bothered by the fact that the artist’s original work has been needlessly colorized. The simplicity of the drawings and the richness of the storylines offset any need for paint by number colors, in my opinion.
Sadly, Charlie Brown, you’re going to be viewed as a nobody with a badge. Especially after Lucy, Violet, Patty, and Frieda get done with you. And probably Shermy.
wow Charlie looks good with that sash and badge huh?!!!!!..wonder if the little red haired girl will be impressed???!!!!..thought today’s strip would be Snoopy in a military hat going to Bill Mauldin’s house to drink root beer since it’s Veteran’s Day

When I was in school, we didn’t have anything like that. Funny thing is, neither does my daughters’ school.
