    Just don’t abuse the power of the badge and sash, Charlie Brown.

    Old Honeymooners gag:
    Ralph: Just remember Alice! I’m the Boss. You’re nothing. I’m the BOSS! You’re NOTHING!
    Alice: Big deal! That makes you boss over nothing!

    I will never forget the day I was made Safety Leader in Grade School…Of all the honors I’ve ever received, I think I remember that one as the best…

    If that’s supposed to be a Sam Browne belt—-and Mr. Schulz’s reminiscences make it clear this is drawn straight from his schooldays—-I doubt very much if it would be bright red.

    @Robert Nowall

    Colourisation isn’t exactly all it’s cracked-up to be (original strip thread of science-fair project with redhead girl, and CB’s crossing-guard appointment WASN’t in colour either in original book or “Classics” collection).

    When I was in school, we didn’t have anything like that. Funny thing is, neither does my daughters’ school.

    Normally they are blaze orange, but since Charlie Brown wears an orange shirt, the colorist made the belt red to stand out.

    In “You Don’t Look 35, Charlie Brown,” Mr. Schulz wrote a brief reminiscence of how he never achieved the honor of school patrol and never got to wear the “striking leather belt with an attached shoulder strap and a silver badge” that went with it. Unfortunately he doesn’t say what color the belt was. (The badge in this colorization seems to be gold or yellow…)

    Thank you everybody for refraining to give any spoilers today. And I want to encourage everyone to please, please, refrain from posting spoilers in the future. It’s not like a “The Lord of the Rings” or another best seller that’s been made into a movie. Many of us haven’t read these strips in decades and we’ve simply forgotten how the story arcs play out. It’s fun to read them as if they were brand new. So, please, no spoilers in the future, okay? Thank you.

    For years, Shulz used to honer veterans in his November 11th strip. Too bad you don’t.
