“Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.” — flaming liberal Winston Churchill, Nov. 11, 1947.
This cartoon is all wrong! If someone is reading instructions written in hieroglyphics, that means they date back to the time of the Pharoahs, when they ruled absolutely, and the Israelis were slaves. There was no democracy back then!
“Now if they want to try a representative republic that is ruled by laws. Well Some over here might be able to help them set that up. Just do not ask Obama of most democrats,”-Yes, they should ask your hero Cheney the ChickenHawk how to go about setting up democracy. And make sure they also consult with your other hero The Decider.=The results in Iraq speak for themselves.
All (well, most) of you have some interesting and sometimes pertinent things to say about the chaos in Egypt and the Middle East. But back to the point — this is a very effective cartoon in summarizing the intractability of the politics there.
Well, since you’re so smart, let’s hear your plan for peace in the Middle East. You’re so quick to trash Obama, you obviously have a fool proof plan. So let’s hear it.Put up or shut up.
Egypt’s profound problems are treated as another opportunity for partisans to jabber about Hillary and Obama. How about McCain and Graham? Why couldn’t they work some Republican magic last week? Because it’s an independent country with huge problems which perhaps we can all agree We Should Stop Funding with billions of dollars.
Is there anything, Anything in this world that you goofballs (ConserveGov, harleyquinn I’m talking to you) do not see through a partisan lens? How was your cup of coffee this morning? “That damn Obamacare ruined my coffee!!!”
The road to Democracy is never straight, clean, or easy. A lot of people are saying that the Arabs are not ready for Democracy. To those people I say, remember the Paris Commune; the US Civil War; the rise of Hitler after the Weimar Republic; the Spanish Civil War and the rise of Franco; the Colonels who ruled Greece – the cradle of Democracy – in the the 60s-70s; Pinochet in Chile; the Dirty War in Argentina. All these countries are now functioning democracies. It may take a generation and plenty of turmoil before Democracy takes root.
“Well Some over here might be able to help them set that up.”Experience shows how well that worked in Iraq & Afghanistan. How about we let them figure out their own affairs? It’s amazing how Vietnam managed to turn out fine, after we decided it was ok to lose that war.
“he instability of the Arab Spring is a result of the authoritarian regimes bankrupting themselves as well as the decline of U.S., European and Russian influences after the Cold War.”Well said!
You mean like Cheney’s billions that just “disappeared” in Iraq? Why aren’t you screaming about that?"==Ooooh, I know the answer, I know!=It’s because it’s okay if a Republican does it.
“don’t elect any muslims at all. They NEVER want to live in a democracy.”What a broad, uninformed and ignorant statement. How would you like it if all Christians were lumped together based on the actions and words of a few zealots? You obviously know little of the Muslim faith other than that which you have probably gleaned from Faux News and its ilk.
Believe it or not, most other nations have their own internal dynamics that have nothing to do with what Washington does. This belief that the US should decide what type of government and who the leaders of other countries should be is both arrogant and ignorant.

“Churchill was a flaming Conservative.”And, almost as horrible a leader during peace as he was great during the war.

When you live in a country (Egypt) where 90% of the population is Muslim, chances are you are a whole lot of Muslims are going to get elected.
