Some of these strips have been “updated” with references to Sean Connery, Julia Roberts, Tom Cruise, et cetera.

I would be willing to be that Brad Pitt was not even a twinkle in his Dad’s eye back in the day when you could buy an entire mackerel for only sixty cents.

So they update the name-check, but the lady can still buy a fish for sixty cents? Um…

“And not only that, this fish is full of holes.”“Yes, I know, it’s a…”-————-Nooo, forget it, a pun that lame is beneath even ME.

I wish they wouldn’t try to update this comic. It’s the “classic” part that has me coming here. If I want to hear about Brad Pitt, I will go stand in a Wal-Mart checkout line and glance at the tabloids while I wait my turn to buy cheap Chinese goods.

I agree with you 100%. An update like this makes no sense!!

Obviously been updated. Why? This is a classic comic and anyone who reads it should know.

I wonder which star’s name the original strip used?

If I saw the original name, I would know the joke instantly because of the context, then I would immediately wikipedia/google the new name and learn about them.

My guess as well, as I’m betting this strip is from the 1930s
