Good comment, Michael. Too many people have forgotten their history lessons from school and as we’ve been warned, those who fail to learn from history…..^On a lighter note, I have six Eisenhower election buttons including several “I Like Ike” buttons. He was a good man.And so are you, I think. Respectfully,C.

“But also those that live only history make no headway into the present.”You make a good point here. Compared to Western Europe, the Middle East was pretty peaceful for the last 2,000 years. Intractable foes have managed to come to terms before. The problem with Israel & Palestine has been extremists on both sides derailing any negotiation. I have to wonder if watching Syria disintegrate is making the Palestinians rethink their options.

Nasser nationalized the canal, after the U.S. & Britain withdrew financing for the Aswan Dam. This made him incredibly popular in the Arab world, as well as Egypt. I have to laugh at the guy who thinks Nasser drove out the French, British & Israeli occupiers. The canal would be part of Israel if Ike had not intervened. I know Arabs don’t like to be reminded of the humiliating defeats they suffered every time they fought with Israel, Of course, there are still plenty of Americans who think we could’ve won in Vietnam.

Peace will be achieved in the MIddle East when the last Jew, Arab(Both Semites), Muslim, Jew and Christian(religious affiliation), have all died. Ethics and intra-tribal fighting in the first two, the curse of “religious piety”, read intolerance and hypocrisy, in the latter.

Howgoesit PAJ?Living in History, that is, the Past, is unwise. I feel those who resist greater use of green energy are living in the past and because it’s profitable to do so, have no interest in investing into the future.I disagree with you that it is worn out phrase. It is a reminder of how humans can be short sighted and fail to prepare for the future as we see happening in Detroit and other major US cities.I suggest those who don’t want to be reminded of the past are people who don’t want things to change the way the would if patent laws and attitudes were more civil and respectful.Cliches’ are often cliche, but that doesn’t make them wrong.Respectfully,C.

The Swift Boat Veterans have been thoroughly discredited, but somehow the supposedly biased, liberal media rarely makes that clear. Too often, the claims are described as ‘controversial’ rather than ‘false’.None of the men who call themselves, “Swift Boat Veterans” were actually present when Kerry received the wounds that earned him the Purple Hearts. Only one of them ever served with Kerry, but was not present when Kerry received his wounds. The veterans who were actually present, back up Kerry’s account.

Gosh, if only we had elected Willard the ChickenHawk. No one would have expectations of anything other than to ‘muddle through’.
