Yeah, a year ago or even six months ago we could have sent the rebels supplies and weapons and did some good. Now it is probably too late. Both Assad seems to be stronger and Al Qaeda is assassinating the rebel leaders. Even if Assad does fall, it won’t be a boon for the West or much improvement for the people.

Appeasement and “Don’t get involved” has been the western politician’s response since before WWII.

It’s a “No Win”, d*amned if you do, d*amned if you don’t. “Internal affairs of another country” is used to justify atrocities since before recorded history. A weak US leader (lame duck, no less) with no military experience? What can the United States expect? not much.

Agreed! We should have marched in as we did in Korea, ’Nam, Iraq and Afghanistan… Those adventures all went so well, and the bad guys all learned to behave!

How about a new policy? We only go to war with countries that more than 1/2 of all Americans can find on a map?

when g h w bush sent our troops .. That was shrub’s father — president from 1989 1993 sent troops to middle east after Iraq invaded Kuwait. Desert Storm operations lasted some 6 months.Shrub (president 2001 – 2009) is the one who invaded Afghanistan and Iraq and started overthrowing foreign governments. While I hold no brief for someone who says "Read my lips - no new taxes" and then signs a whopping tax increase into law the next year, he didn’t do what his son (of a B) did.

So, Assad is “imigrated” to the U.S. to become another bar tender? Could happen!

Israel has never threatened anyone with their nuclear capabilities. They live in a very tough neighborhood (and have every right to live there) and are entitled to any protection they feel they need. And we have them also.
