We’re in the middle of where they’re supposed to be – and I’ve found a total of about 12 very quiet cicadas. You would never know anything was different If you travel two miles down the road, however, they make themselves known.
Which actually wasn’t as bad an infestation as back in 1990. That was a mess. You couldn’t go anywhere without stepping on a few dozen of them. I loved riding my bike. They’re not as hard as June-bugs, so hitting them in the air won’t knock you off, but all that wonderful crunching noise certainly took the edge off the shrilling they were normally doing.

Actually, I think when they molt, they look younger. I wish humans could do that.
