Nice to know that the POTUS can force Marines to violate standing orders and regulations because he can’t be bothered to hold an umbrella during a sprinkling. What a tool.

    I’m sure that’s the “difference” that matters…

I learned a long time ago in Viet Nam that while the Army, Navy ground forces are taught to think for themselves, Marines are trained to be mindless cannon fodder and do or/and die as they’re told. If that includes holding an umbrella over the President, so be it: note the Marine is still standing in the rain.

A couple years ago, had a Marine come up to me, and shake my hand when he saw my crew wings and 1st Cav pin. Seems that on two, TWO occasions, Cav helicopters came in to pull them out of “hot spots” when the Marine choppers wouldn’t. Turns out in our discussion, I was on one of those Hueys at one hot LZ on one occasion. Don’t know if he got on my bird or not, but he was grateful the ARMY would take a risk his own would not.

Saw a lot of good Marines wounded or killed because Marine officers were idiots. My experience, and observations of our involvements since, hasn’t changed my view of “the Corps”. I respect the courage of those who join as enlisted, but not those who by and large make up their officer corps.

In order.1) I am a Marine. I will always be a Marine. I’ve signed on the dotted line, and sworn the oath. Want proof? here. That’s me in 29 palms, CA in October of 2011 preparing for a deployment to Afghanistan, as part of OEF 12-1. Anything else you have to say?2) You are creating false situations that likely will never occur. Quit trying to make a strawman argument. 3) The CIC is responsible for adhering to military regulations. If you are told to do something that is counter to an order, “Don’t salute the colors,” it is your responsibility to refuse those orders. Why? Because the regulations supersede direct orders given at the time. But you wouldn’t understand that, because you don’t have the guts to enlist.4) I’m quite certain that I am real. Though if you want to get into an existential debate, that would be a welcome change from your drivel.Pirate: Those are soldiers. Marines have a different set of regulations. We’re talking MCO’s here, not UCMJ Articles here. And yes. That difference does matter. A lot. @ Trout: A lot’s changed since vietnam. A lot. A lot of officers are still smart-assed tools, but things have gotten better. They’ve at least started listening to their Sergeants.

    1) You clearly don’t understand the brotherhood. How could you? You’re just a civilian. I am past my time with the Marine Corps, but I will always be a Marine. Once a Marine, always a Marine. And I am working with my father for his business. He is teaching me to program so I can some day take that over for him. I, at the same time, am working as a claims adjuster. I also own my own business that is just starting up which will provide the programming services for my brother’s business, and he will inherit my father’s business when my father retires. 2) Very well. Absurdum it is. It doesn’t change my argument: your comments bear no attachment to reality, thus are discarded.3) We don’t salute enemy colors, genius. We also don’t salute colors in the field. Again, you wouldn’t know that because you didn’t raise your right hand. Even the most boot-ass private would know this.So you sat, huddled in your house watching the TV. You sound like one of those that spat on the military’s uniforms when they were coming home after experiencing hell on earth. But keep telling yourself that you are a “balance” to the military industrial complex. What you fail to realize is that we, too, believe war should be a last resort. But we also believe that if you’re going to go to war, you better be prepared to win it.As to your “daddy’s house” comment, you are ignorant, and are passing judgement without knowing the full situation. As I mentioned above, I’m not living with my parents; I have a wife, two children, three dogs, and a bearded dragon. I own my home, and pay my own way. I will be taking a bigger risk in owning my own business than you likely have ever taken in your whole life.4) We’re amphibious warriors for a reason. If we’re getting rained on in our dress blues, we suck it up. If we’re in our MARPAT and it’s raining, we either suck it up or put on gortex. We have no need for an umbrella. Water is water, and it isn’t going to change a thing. I’ve performed funeral details for fallen Marines in the rain. I got wet. Oh well. There are worse things in life than getting wet. We have no use for umbrellas. Even in civies, I don’t use an umbrella.

Wraithkin: a friend here in town had both her sons join the Marines because it was the “Macho” thing to do. Both were broken and disabled by idiot officers in the Corps, and both have been denied any benefits and double-crossed by SOP in the Corps. NO, nothing has changed. I would never advise a young person wanting to serve the country to join the Marines. Navy, Army, Air Force, yes, Marine Corps- never!
