Anyone consider that folks protesting taxes, and government, have for a long time been subject to audit, especially when they make political contributions while trying to get tax free status for the funds?

I’d like to know why any political organizations are awarded tax free status. -

What, exactly, does the Tea PARTY do for the general welfare?

The IRS did audit a liberal church in 2004 for hosting a speaker who was opposed to a war. A church! Opposed to war! Who’d a thunk it? Naturally, the GOP was fine with THAT political profiling, as long as they leave the conservative mega-churches who actually tell people how to vote alone.

Here’s my concern about the Tea Partiers, and it all goes back to the idea that anything taken to extreme is usually counterproductive:

I saw a news piece about a year ago. There is a town in Florida that is what I would imagine would be a tea-partier’s heaven: you don’t have to pay for anything you don’t want to.

There is a $75 per year fee for fire protection. This guy didn’t pay it. He didn’t say why, and I can’t be sure we could believe him anyway. Regardless, his house caught fire. He called the fire department; they looked him up and told him that they could not respond, as he had not paid his $75. He offered to pay in cash. He offered to pay more than $75. He was refused.

The fire department did respond….to his neighbors. They kept the neighboring homes hosed down to ensure that they did not start to burn, while watching this guy’s home burn to the ground. Many firefighters became physically ill because of the situation they were put in.

Is money so important for us to keep that we are willing to gamble that we won’t need basic services? Are we willing to let the bridge down the street fall into the creek, never to be repaired, because we don’t live near that bridge, and don’t use it anyway?

Have we come this far as a society?

“And how, exactly, are they (the Tea Party) harming you? If they are not harming you, why do you care? They are only saying that we are taxed enough, and the money the government gets from all of us should be spent in a more responsible manner. Perhaps no more robotic squirrels & other such utter nonsense! Anyone with half a brain should agree with that.”-The Tea PARTY should be awarded or denied tax free status based on whether or not they do harm to me?-A PARTY is a political organization. Why should political organizations be granted favored tax status?-Just because YOU agree with them?
