Having escalators that don’t work isn’t exactly “luxurious.” Lots of people rely on the Metro, and given DC traffic (and intersections), that’s an excellent idea.

I commuted on the metro for years into DC. I still prefer it to driving into the city.
I have used the Metro on the few occasions I have been in DC. I agree with Pirate227, it beats driving. Only complaint is that it shuts down at 11 pm.
