Only Walt could get away with such an awful pun!

Nice of Jim to label the characters so we don’t get confused.

I remember Andy Gump and his family! Not long ago I recieved a book about the Gumps featuring the storyline that culminated in the death of a girl named Mary Gold.

That was quite a big deal back then.

Yes, love the “name tag” on Andy Gump, who does look like Mutt. Rod Gonzalez, it is truly the Golden Age of comic strip reprints… dozens of classics are currently available in book form, most for the first time in decades.

Rod Gonzalez, I read “The Death of Mary Gold” in a hardcover collection of “The Gumps” that was published back in the ‘70s. Lots of humor strips engaged in long dramatic continuities back in the ’20s and ’30s (including “Gasoline Alley”), but having a sympathetic character actually die in one was shocking. I still remember Tom Carr, freshly released from prison, rushing to Mary’s side only to be told “You’re just a few minutes too late.” Heavy stuff for the time.

Hope to get a glimple of Winnie Winkle the Bread Winner as well as Perry and his gang.

Enjoying this arc immensely, although I’m hoping it can be a recurring one. Still not ready to let go of Walt….
