@SUSAN NEWMAN: Maggie always put on airs. She hated Jiggs hanging out with his old friends and playing cards with them.

Yes. And I think the brown one is Krazy Kat and the gray one is Ignatz. But I’m not sure.

There is another (pay) site where you can read the original McManus strips and this is definitely Maggie. She wanted to be a high-society woman even though her roots were as humble as his.

    Hi David.
    .
Ignatz was the brick throwing mouse from Krazy Kat.

The gray cat is the cat from Mutt & Jeff, I think.

I went to Toonopedia and that doesn’t look like Ignatz. I don’t know who it is.

Cat burglar? Here? Don’t be silly. Who would want to burgle those cats?

Wasn’t that Cicero’s cat, originally in Mutt & Jeff, later spun off into his own Sunday strip?

    That could be.

    Cats:
Left to right is Spooky, (a ‘tag’ comic to Bill Holman’s “Smokey Stover”)
then Krazy Kat and then Felix. The one above Spooky?
I’ve No Idea. It’s just a cat. Spooky is mis-colored, as usual, as his face is supposed to be pure white & black with a red nose.
    Foo !

The cat in the foreground saying “Foo” is from Smokey Stover.

The highlight of my existence starting at age 4 was the summer trip to my grandparents in the city when I got to read the Sunday funnies. They had all the old strips – Jiggs and Maggie, the Little King, Smokey Stover (which made NO sense but I didn’t let that bother me), Dick Tracy. Especially this strip because Chipper and I were almost the same age.
