John’s not the idiot who bought the B&W TV from one of Elly’s fellow librarians, is he?

But “they” didn’t make a dime. It all goes to the library.

When I was 15 I used my small allowance to buy a set of encyclopedias from a yard sale only to find it had belonged to my aunt and uncle who lived next door.

Thank God, that John hadn’t started his model train hobby yet. That would have been one expensive yard sale for him.

He’s so condescending in the first panel I want to bop him upside the head! Must he always belittle everything Elly does?

At this stage in Elly’s past, it’s the 70s or so. :-)

Many years ago, there was a prosperous village in India. But, they had a problem with monkeys.A trader came by and said he needed to acquire monkeys to sell to circuses and zoos. Offered 50c per monkey. When he came back the next day with a wheeled cage, bought all that they had rounded up.But said he still needed more and upped bounty to $2 each.Same next day, upped bounty to $5.By now, it was hard for the villagers to even see a monkey, let alone catch one.So, bounty was upped to $15 and said he had business in a neighboring village and would be back next week. Two days later, another trader came through with a cage full of monkeys.“I hear someone is paying $15 for monkeys?”“That’s right, he will be back in five days!”“Drat – I can’t wait that long. Tell you what, why don’t I sell you these at $10 each, you can make a $5 profit, and I can get on about my business?”

So the villagers went to the bank and mortgaged all their property to buy his load of monkeys.Neither man was ever seen again! The villagers then realized that they had bought their own monkeys back, and could only turn them loose. So now, they were in debt, and had the original monkey problem.MORAL: You have just been given a lesson in how the stock market works!!

Why would John pay $25.00 for an old black-and-white t.v. at his wife’s yard sale when, as far as he knew/remembered, he already had one in his garage/workshop to begin with? If he’s that forgetful then I sure wouldn’t want him doing any work on MY mouth/teeth!!!

It’s like I said yesterday . . . there’s no rhyme nor reason to some of the weird/stupid things people do sometimes!!!!!

When we lived in NJ the office buildings at the corner would redecorate when a new tenant moved in and the dumpsters were full of cast off light fixtures, file cabinets, and other great stuff. after cleaning up and repainting if needed it would go into my garage sale. I would clear between $300 to $600 bucks each time.
