yesterday re: Oz ] The Denslow Guys’ looked like some kind of printmaking? the trees are wonderful maybe not a woodcut but has a Poster-type look .Perhaps just the age, too.^^I think the woodblock look has to do with his use of thick lines with a nib pen

As Chalkie j said, this is just plain bad. Lame and lamer. Wait, there’s three of them. Lame and lamer and lamest? Here’s an example of how the Master handles two men at the bar…

On a personal note, this is Texas Independence Day. Please join me in raising a glass to the brave men and women of the Alamo, Goliad, and San Jacinto.

I’m sorry I missed all the talk about the Oz books yesterday. I have all of the Baum books, plus three by Ruth Plumly Thompson (as a kid, her “Kabumpo in Oz” was always my favorite), and one by Jack Snow. My favorite Baum book was always “The Land of Oz”, where we first meet Jack Pumpkinhead, the Sawhorse, and of course Tip, who later became Ozma. I wasn’t disturbed by that as a child but I felt betrayed. Tip was a great character, but Ozma was always so damn treacly that I couldn’t stand her. I liked the other Oz books despite her, not because of her!@MikeyjAny chance of Andy Capp in Oz?

RE: Yesterday… (I tried to copy and paste your reply but it was acting itself)

    Thank you!

I still remember that album you told me about last year ‘Meaty, Beaty, Big and Bouncy’

    Who produced that one again?

Your Aunt Eileen is still in my thoughts along with Patty. I’m so glad she’s doing better now.

I’m sure she’ll love your card.

May your day be bright and sweet.

Walter Crawford Kelly, Jr. was born in Philadelphia on August 25, 1913, though his family moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut when he was only 2. He went to California at age 22, to work on Donald Duck cartoons at Walt Disney Studios in 1935. He stayed until the strike in 1941, as an animator on The Nifty Nineties, The Little Whirlwind, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo and The Reluctant Dragon. Kelly then worked for Dell Comics, a division of Western Publishing of Racine, Wisconsin.

@all Oz fansI’ve always kept my collection of Oz books and thought I’d out-grown them, until a few years ago when I read “The Annotated Wizard of Oz” by Michael Patrick Hearn. (I’ve had a distressing tendency to read “annotated” books for a few years now, with the Alice books, Huck Finn, Dracula, and so many others…even the “Sword of Shanarra” annotated by Terry Brooks himself, which seems to kind of evade the point…….) I enjoyed it so I re-read my entire collection! But Baum was never the craftsman that other children’s authors were, like C. S. Lewis, or Lloyd Alexander, or Lewis Carrol or the sainted Dr. Seuss. I think Baum’s imagination ran far ahead of his technical craft. Now if only the modern Andy Capp exhibited either imagination OR technical craft……..

Thank you for the explaination also! Your CDs sound pretty cool. What is your favourite song out of the tracks?

I like listening to music too when I’m on the comics.

I hope you enjoy ‘Good Neighbors’ too.

My day was OK… Was yours good?

@ Guido “Sarduchi” Murray:I’m Chalkie j, not Rocket J, Bullwinkle.but here’s some WHO You’ll really enjoy with Nicky Hopkins on ivory. He’s a ‘tinkler’ but can keep up with Jerry G. when They play together, melody-wise. It’s for #3, but You can listen The Ox if you behave for a change.

Hey Clubb Capp!!!!! I’ve been watching movies with the Boss Lady all day. Those last two, "Darkness and “All Superheros Must Die”, whooooeeeeee, hold your nose folks. They were so lame I laughed through both of them. Redbox will have one decent movie for every ten lame. Still it was a pleasure to just sit with my wife and have a sort of date day. I notice we heard from Linguist again today. Also, Linda Dean. Where has she been? I know she is not well and I worry. Or is she in Texas? I now remember she said something about Texas. Anyway, I’m having a relatively good day and have slowed down on my meds a little. God Bless everyone.
