Writer: Encouraging. Editor: Everyone has to write ten blog posts a day. And cover the state-house. And... Michael Reed: You need incentives and perks to hold on to top talent! That's just good business sense. Writer: Welp. That's one post for the day. The Gatehouse newspaper chain has ended free coffee for their newsrooms due to budget cuts. This, at a time when layoffs are increasing workloads. Meanwhile, CEO Michael Reed received an $800,000 bonus in 2012. What's wrong with newspapers?

“WELP,” an interesting word/phrase. A modern vocabulary addition but it fits in this case. Of course this cartoon is a little understated when it comes to looking at bonuses by top executives. 1st link an article to newspaper CEO’s salaries. 2nd is “WELP” definitions.

Newspapers….ah, yes. Headline: “Celebrity Starlet Trips Over Own Feet”. Page 10: “World’s Oceans Dry up Overnight”. I suppose it’s a question of priorities.

“Why is every comment except one missing the point on this cartoon. Why are the people at the top getting raises at the same time the people at the bottom taking pay cuts.”
Because CEO and Executive are no longer jobs, but social classes, much like the Brahma of India. The industry they are in is irrelevant – no matter how much I may know about telecommunications, I will never be able to achieve their level because I wasn’t born into an Executive class family. I have to put up with CEO’s and Executives above me who have already failed in other unrelated industries telling me what is best and making the decisions because God ordained that they hold that position. Why else do I get fired for taing an extra 3 days to ensure my work is accurate, but if they cause a billion dollar loss they are rewarded with a 60 million dollar severance package?

What liberal editors? They print things exactly like their multinational corporate advertisers tell them to. “Editor” is an obsolete term for figurehead. The real editing is done by the advertising department following orders.
