Dog, you have three chances: fat, slim, and none!

I just got a call from the vet telling me that Little Fluff passed away this morning from a really bad upper respiratory infection. Plus dehydration plus he couldn’t eat. He was only four months old. Although he was 100% feral, he looked just like a Persian, but without the flat nose. He was grey. A really sweet little boy.Sorry about being such a downer.

So sorry, Lovecraft. I think those of us who read this comic have all been down that road more than once. It always hurts.

Katiekicks, Dry, Paula:Thank you for your kind words. Yes, when the vet saw him he said “That’s a very sick cat.” And he also said that if he knew that nothing could be done he wouldn’t recommend taking him into the hospital for fluid therapy and other possibilities.I kept Little Fluff in the kitchen, and my others had no contact with him. They seem to be fine. Thanks again. That’s very sweet of you!

Thank you, Beth and pierreandnicole, for your kind words! I have already have two females in the house, but there’s also a little guy outside who enjoys coming into the house, Tony. He’s a lovely black with green eyes and soft shiny fur. He has already adopted ME.

“The Rainbow Bridge” is a regular column in one of the German cat magazines where people express their sorrow at the passing of their companion. It’s both sad and beautiful.

LOVECRAFT, I hope you see this! I have 2 cats now who I found under my Catalpa tree, one year ago, a week apart. Eyes closed, I guess Mom Cat was moving them but I didn’t know that at the time, youngest son and I brought them in, called my Vet. First thing he says to me with the first kitten, was, “What did you get yourself into now?” He’s been my Vet through dogs and cats for about 30 years now, he knows me, LOL! Told us what to do with them, said the odds weren’t good, but we managed, and my youngest, college student, home for the summer, GOT UP AT 2 AM AND 4 AM to bottle feed them! Those two are healthy and such a delight! Our Vet said “WE DONE GOOD!” and he couldn’t believe how healthy they are now.

Point being, you do what you have to do, and if it works out, that is great, if it doesn’t, that little one knows, in some way that you CARED ENOUGH to try. Animals are MUCH SMARTER than many people give them credit for. Don’t give up on your rescue efforts! It hurts, but there is the knowledge that you did what you did for one of God’s creatures.

And I’ve been where you are too, where it didn’t work out as hoped, but I knew I did my best and after grieving, I felt good about at least trying.
