I guess you know you are a Plugger when you can not only remember way back when it was actually First Golden State Bank – but you still have the box of unused check which you still had when Golden State Bank disappeared the first time.

….And Bank of America was NCNB.

First Union. What memories of working there in the late 90s. Bad memories. What a pit!!

My company changed its name 8 times in the 39 years I was employed there. It was entertaining to re-introduce myself to our long-standing vendors as “from the company formerly known as…”

In 1964 I opened a checking account with Philadelphia National Bank which reorganized into CoreStates which was acquired by First Union, then Wachovia, then Wells Fargo. But embedded in my 13-digit WF account number is still my original 7-digit PNB number.

I was a member of the bank of the month club; Same bank, just a different sign and new checks every month. The first group sold after receiving a promise of debt coverage and no legal prosecution.

We signed up with Sears Bank (what were we thinking?) which turned into Citibank, but have spent the last few years hoping our bank didn’t just =disappear=

City Bank & Trust 1963 in Dallas, Metro Bank, Allied Bank, First Interstate Bank, Wells Fargo. Because acquisitions include liabilities as well as assets, we have a fee-free Wells Fargo account (it was a “charter depositor” deal at City Bank).
