Wasn’t the Heritage Foundation the group that said that the Individual Mandate was the right way to go for a National Health Plan?Right up until a Democrat implemented it?

The Heritage Foundation is where the conservative idea of a health insurance mandate came from, as a private sector alternative to socialized medicine. Now that they’ve pretty much killed socialized medicine as an option, they call their own idea “socialized medicine.” One columnist referred to DeMint leading the Heritage Foundation as the perfect move for the first post-thought think tank.

The Heritage Foundation is also where Justice Clarence Thomas’s wife has worked in her support of conservative issues. A report I just read to confirm this said she made over 650k over a five year period. Some of these issues were reviewed by SCOTUS and Justice Thomas has not recused himself from any of them, despite his wife being paid to defend them by Heritage. While the mission statement of HF is noble, and they have pursued issues upon which I agreed, in recent times they have become a lobbyist arm for some of the most conservative members of the Rep party. But if ends justify means, then Mr. DeMint has ‘won’ the game, and will recieve the paycheck to prove it.Sadly,C.

    Couple of questions

    []:

How many Repubs raised a protest when the Japanese Americans were interned during World War II?

How nany of them raised a protest when Congress voted to pay them COMPENSATION for their internment?

    []

As for the Nazis. here’s how Hitler himself defined Socialism. []“Whoever is prepared to make the national cause his own to such an extent that he knows no higher ideal than the welfare of his nation; whoever has understood our great national anthem, Deutschland, Deutschland, über Alles, to mean that nothing in the wide world surpasses in his eyes this Germany, people and land, land and people — that man is a Socialist.”[]Change ‘Deutschland, über Alles’ to, The Pledge of Allegiance and by that definition, the TEA PARTY is Socialist

That’s very interesting. I will reread it and ponder. A couple of immediate thoughts.First, a lot of political labels have been so badly tortured over the years that they no longer mean what they used to mean and sometimes mean nothing. Second, a number of these points (but not all) would also apply to Stalinism, in practice if not in theory. Third, the kind of socialism I was brought up in was fundamentally internationalist and anti-racist. (Also anti-Stalinist, by the way.) WWI was the first real test for socialist internationalism, and by and large socialists failed the test.

@Masterskrain & @Sharuniboy,Excellent insights. Another of our eloquent commentators quoted Mussolini, a famous Fascist, as saying Fascism is better described as corporatism, however, my research shows that quote was an english translation of an italian newspaper & not totally accurate, but this was interesting.“The corporate State considers that private enterprise in the sphere of production is the most effective and usefu [sic] [typo-should be: useful] instrument in the interest of the nation. In view of the fact that private organisation of production is a function of national concern, the organiser of the enterprise is responsible to the State for the direction given to production.State intervention in economic production arises only when private initiative is lacking or insufficient, or when the political interests of the State are involved. This intervention may take the form of control, assistance or direct management. (pp. 135-136) Benito Mussolini, 1935, Fascism: Doctrine and Institutions, Rome: ‘Ardita’ Publishers.”I’m not making a statement with this, but it does show what a “professional” fascist might have said to some of the comments here.Respectfully,& Happy Holidayze,C.

The Tea Party is over. Primarily because of nut-jobs like DeMint. Put him in the premiere booby hatch and drive them over the cliff too. There’s a basic human drive toward health and the people are waking up to the conservative damage and BS. The same thing happened to the Flat Earth Society.

National Socialist WORKERS Party was taken over by Hitler, and the first persecuted were the “trade unionists”, before even the Roma and Jews. Nationalism, not socialism, was the driving force behind the Nazi movement.

Britt’s analysis is viable, accurate, and should be of concern to any who’ve monitored the “shift” at Heritage, and other formerly “independent” types who’ve become extremely right-wing in the last three decades. At least the John Birch Society has stayed consistent, and nuts.

“To be threatened someone needs to be important…”-I suppose that depends on how you define ‘important’. Just because Mr. Ima isn’t important to you doesn’t mean that no one finds value in him.

“…one of my points about Leftist thinking: “My opinion is the ONLY correct opinion and you need to shut up.”-You only see this on the left? Are you reading ALL of the posts? It is most certainly present on the right. No end of the political spectrum is immune to this arrogant attitude.

Firstly, I’m sorry that your response got cut off, but am appreciative that you took the time to think about, and type your response. I suppose the system could use some work to keep such things from happening in the future. One thing that I do, which can help to keep you from getting cut off, is to put my response on a document, copy it, then paste it in the window. That way the response pane is open for only a short time.

….and secondly-“I rarely see the conservatives attack liberals the way they are attacked, and then it’s usually from a more defensive stance, usually after they’ve been personally attacked or been called names. And I’ve never seen *anyone” attacked the way Mr. Ima is. I notice that Howgozit has taken a lot of hits with personal attacks lately, again just for posting his opinion. Obviously I can’t read all the posts, but could you point out any posts by conservatives where the only point was to call someone names or insult them or just for the sake of attacking a person, and where they weren’t first attacked?"-There are plenty of attacks and name-calling from the right. For example::“Typical leftist un-American rant blaming the constitution rather than the villian….”-“The Obamanation’s unworkable plan…”-“There’s a typical lib.”-“Welcome to the Dem Lib world…”-“Reality IS breathtaking for a Dem Lib….”-“…voted for Obozo …”-“…lazy little slobs…”-“…welfare and gov’t leeches…”-“… a lazy moocher …”-“… the Obamanation has done more…”-“…Obumbles won …”-“…never expect a libtard to…”-“…namely our socialist and traitor, Obama…”-“ …liberal leeches…”-“You liberal dummies… “-“…bottom-feeding welfare parasites …”-“…idiots on obama welfare… “-“ …evil taxocrat …”-“…the Dim-Libs don’t …”-“…Dear Leader is the spoiled brat…”=As I said before, “No end of the political spectrum is immune to this arrogant attitude.” If these cut-and-paste quotes from right-wing posters on this site aren’t evidence enough to make the point, tune into conservative media and listen to their pundits use terms like “pinheads” and “feminazi”. I commend you for condeming personal attacks, I just wish you wouldn’t limit such critisizm to those on the left. There’s plenty of blame to go around.

Thanks for your note. Since I’m not a pro I also lose posts, so I can’t find the one you’re referring to. But I bet whatever the topic was, it will come up again. I’d like to think that we all have the best interests of the country at heart. For instance, I really do understand why conservatives are upset about the debt. I happen to think that there are other more immediately serious problems which justify the current deficits, but I agree that in the long term the debt should be reduced. How to do that in a way that doesn’t hurt the old and the poor I don’t know. I hope that an improving economy will help the fiscal situation, but I fear that too much reduction in federal spending will lead to a contraction of the economy, which we don’t need now. I may be wrong — it won’t be the first time — but that my honest reading of the situation.
