Wasn’t the Heritage Foundation the group that said that the Individual Mandate was the right way to go for a National Health Plan?
Right up until a Democrat implemented it?

The Heritage Foundation is where the conservative idea of a health insurance mandate came from, as a private sector alternative to socialized medicine. Now that they’ve pretty much killed socialized medicine as an option, they call their own idea “socialized medicine.” One columnist referred to DeMint leading the Heritage Foundation as the perfect move for the first post-thought think tank.

The Heritage Foundation is also where Justice Clarence Thomas’s wife has worked in her support of conservative issues. A report I just read to confirm this said she made over 650k over a five year period. Some of these issues were reviewed by SCOTUS and Justice Thomas has not recused himself from any of them, despite his wife being paid to defend them by Heritage.
While the mission statement of HF is noble, and they have pursued issues upon which I agreed, in recent times they have become a lobbyist arm for some of the most conservative members of the Rep party.
But if ends justify means, then Mr. DeMint has ‘won’ the game, and will recieve the paycheck to prove it.

    Couple of questions

How many Repubs raised a protest when the Japanese Americans were interned during World War II?

How nany of them raised a protest when Congress voted to pay them COMPENSATION for their internment?

As for the Nazis. here’s how Hitler himself defined Socialism.
“Whoever is prepared to make the national cause his own to such an extent that he knows no higher ideal than the welfare of his nation; whoever has understood our great national anthem, Deutschland, Deutschland, über Alles, to mean that nothing in the wide world surpasses in his eyes this Germany, people and land, land and people — that man is a Socialist.”
Change ‘Deutschland, über Alles’ to, The Pledge of Allegiance and by that definition, the TEA PARTY is Socialist

That’s very interesting. I will reread it and ponder. A couple of immediate thoughts.
First, a lot of political labels have been so badly tortured over the years that they no longer mean what they used to mean and sometimes mean nothing. Second, a number of these points (but not all) would also apply to Stalinism, in practice if not in theory. Third, the kind of socialism I was brought up in was fundamentally internationalist and anti-racist. (Also anti-Stalinist, by the way.) WWI was the first real test for socialist internationalism, and by and large socialists failed the test.

    …and to continue Simon_Jester’s tirade:
Besides, female dog, if he’s such a moron, why & how did he win a Pulitzer?
I have been reading Morin’s work for years, and have found him always hitting the mark of the subjects he draws about. He doesn’t care whether his audience is Democrat or Republican or whatever; he only cares to make people THINK.

    @Masterskrain & @Sharuniboy,
    Excellent insights.
Another of our eloquent commentators quoted Mussolini, a famous Fascist, as saying Fascism is better described as corporatism, however, my research shows that quote was an english translation of an italian newspaper & not totally accurate, but this was interesting.
“The corporate State considers that private enterprise in the sphere of production is the most effective and usefu [sic] [typo-should be: useful] instrument in the interest of the nation. In view of the fact that private organisation of production is a function of national concern, the organiser of the enterprise is responsible to the State for the direction given to production.
State intervention in economic production arises only when private initiative is lacking or insufficient, or when the political interests of the State are involved. This intervention may take the form of control, assistance or direct management. (pp. 135-136)
Benito Mussolini, 1935, Fascism: Doctrine and Institutions, Rome: ‘Ardita’ Publishers.”
I’m not making a statement with this, but it does show what a “professional” fascist might have said to some of the comments here.
