Taxes will only be returning to the Clinton rates on the amount over $250,000 you earn. No one that has their taxes raised will go wanting, they’ll still have that first $250,000 taxed at the same rate as everyone else.
The “Bush” tax cuts were designed to expire (yeah, yeah I know, it was a Trojan horse), but were extended by congress and Obama. The law is doing what it was designed to do so DON’T make this out like mega-rich people sharing the sacrifice. This was THEIR stimulus and it only stimulated their own wealth..Economists don’t believe trickle down. Most voters don’t. And even most rich people don’t, but many of them will lie to be a million dollars richer next year. (That’s a righteous lie compared to someone who makes $50k a year.)
The Bush tax cuts were to stimulate the job creators. How’s that been working out these past 12 years? Just tripping over all those job creators rushing overseas aren’t we.
Back to the subject of the ‘toon: it looks like the chopping will continue. Virginia’s Republican Lt. Governor suspended his campaign for November 2013’s gubernatorial election. He is a true conservative. However, our Right-of-Attilla-the-Hun Attorney General is the tea party fave. He spent 3 years and millions of state dollars (he says the state only paid a filing fee, as though attorneys work for free….) to fight Obamacare, he doesn’t even pretend that anti-abortion laws are “for the health of the mother”, and he threatened a health regulatory board with not being willing to defend its members in any lawsuit (aka: doing his job) if they didn’t vote the way he wanted. He has maneuvered the party in such a way that our Lt. Governor could not be nominated, and now the party is unhappy that he isn’t getting the Lt. Gov’s endorsement. They are ready to kick him to the curb after 7 years in that office and many more in service to his party.
Meantime, letters to the editor in this area are overwhelmingly stating that the R’s didn’t win because they aren’t conservative enough, and that moderates don’t belong. One even went so far as to say that real conservatives stayed home rather than vote in the last presidential election.
The Republican party continues to become ever smaller as more and more people are deemed unsuitable to be allowed to continue.
With continued effort, and due diligence, the Republican party will end up with what its base seems to want: a very few people who all feel exactly the same way. I wish them good luck on their journey.
Why is it I come here everyday and see you spout FoxNews talking points without EVER backing them up with one single fact? This makes your comments ignorant and unfounded. Anything I state on these comment boards is founded in research (from multiple resources) and is not just partisan hyperbole. You are a true reflection of the Republican party.
I saw a clip of Bill Oreilly who had the governor of Rhode Island on.The gov talked about lighting the holiday tree and how Fox News is an angry network.
This country has had a progressive tax rate since the Revenue Act of 1862. ………………….In 1980, the upper tax bracket, for those filing jointly, making over $215,000, was 70%.………………….In 1964, for those couples making over $400,000 it was 91%.………………….Today, for those couples making over $379,000, it is 35%.………………….http://taxfoundation.org/sites/taxfoundation.org/files/docs/fed_individual_rate_history_nominal%26adjusted—20110909.swf………….………….Considering that the last time we had a balanced budget, the upper tax rate was 39.6%, I’d say 39.6%.

Higher taxes and less money in people’s already diminished paychecks should spark the economy…..

It’s not a tax increase, it is returning taxes to the rate they were when the budget was balanced!

Hard to ignore it when one is scrolling down the posts since you post so (inaccurately) often.

What amount of tax, if any, do you think would be acceptable? What services or infrastructure should the central government abandon?
