When enough owners of companies “Go Galt” , you will see the true damage of progressive policy. For example, Bill’s Barbeque in Richmond has closed their doors due to the repressive regulations.
I think it’s just terrible that government regulations prevent restaurant owners from serving anything they want under any conditions they want. The Free Market will deal with any problems. If people die from eating bad food at a restaurant they won’t go back to that restaurant.
In every election year I can remember except these last 2 there was not this much separation and angst. I wish it could be like that again. All this hating and fighting is dis-spiriting. But things have changed.
All taxes are voluntary. We agree to pay them through our elected representatives. Unless you reject the idea of a representative government, in which case you reject the idea of America. Taxation without Representation is Tyranny. Taxation through Representation is liberty.
In the 1890s Standard Oil developed a monopoly. If you started a gas station in a town that had an S.O. station, the the S.O. folks would subsidize their station and sell at a loss for as long as it took to drive you out of business. Then their prices went up again. That’s the “free” market at work. Nobody remembers what laissez-faire actually looked like, and so now it can be viewed through rose-colored lenses (in “red” states of course). When crime goes down, then police forces and jails look like unnecessary expenses. But just wait to see what happens when you get rid of them!
Doughfoot, I can remember buying gasoline for only the cost of state and federal taxes in the 1950’s and 1960’s. Gas wars were great until the one station would close and the price would then go back up and maybe a little more. Now, most communities’ gasoline stations have agreements to not undersell another and as one raises the price it goes along the streets until all stations are the same price again. In this area, prices usually go up on Thursday afternoons and come back down on Monday evening. The stations call it “Following the leader.”
Ask the former residents of Chesapeake, Ohio about living near a power plant. The town is almost gone, and most residents have been relocated due to the overwhelming pollution of the near-by plant. Reference Columbus Dispatch archives for the story.

And still smoldering!

At first glance I thought the GOP was a pile of poop not ashes.

Don’t laugh. I’ve seen Democrats lose battles to weaker opponents than a pile of smoldering ashes.

Right, Papa John lives in a 22,000 square foot mansion but he can’t afford to buy his employees health insurance.

Yes, it’s pretty amusing when even the people at Fox aren’t buying Karl’s BS.

That’s a picture of GOP integrity. Honor. Dignity. Courage. Pride. Patriotism. All in ashes. If they ever existed.
