I think it was just a slip. Of course, I never really noticed, so that is a good catch. And Offshore Flo’s is a catchy name. Hope it comes back.

I thought the only way to get minuscule portions in America was to pay exorbitant prices.

Why is the sign misspelled? It should be “Dinah” as in someone’s in the kitchen with.

I worked for a company which put up huge expensive framed posters as part of a six-month “quality push”. Unfortunately, all the posters had been printed with the word “professionalism” improperly hyphenated. You can’t make this stuff up.

dearth of comments – is everyone shopping – boosting the economy

I long for the restaurant that gives me the perfect portion of great quality! Usually way too much, or not enough, or lacking quality. That’s right, all restaurants should prepare food to suit me personally!

I’m not shopping. No money for one thing, but I do no do black Friday. However, concerning the comic, I think Wiley has hit upon a most appropriate nerve. We have a ton of leftovers and most will be wasted unless we can find someone who needs them.Our single-mom daughter wouldn’t take any. She’ll take cash, though. I think we baby boomers have failed as parents. And, role models.

According to the book Non Sequitur’s Sunday Color Treasury, the diner was called the “Offshore Diner” in the very first Offshore Flo strips (if I read the fine print correctly, November, 2001). The first several strips were titled “The Adventures of Offshore Flo.” The subtitle of the sign changed for a while (“Offshore Diner and Theater of the Absurd,” “Offshore Diner Always Open,” “Offshore Diner, Whatchacallit, Maine,” and my favorite, “Offshore Dinah”).

The first “Offshore Flo’s” sign seems to have appeared in late ’03.

The motto is to warn folk Flo’s is about to be closed by the health dept. .The genuine gourmet dive will be unmarked, packed with locals, and have an owner that’s cooking and gabbing with the customers, not serving coffee..You’ve never had crab cakes until you’ve found one of these little unmarked shacks hanging 1/2 way over the water, with the crabbing boats pulling up to the kitchen dock.

food establishments give large portions because people want a bargain. Much of the food is taken home and even some is eaten. Food in the US is relatively cheap, it is the service(or the experience), that costs.

offshore sounds like the name of a movie

There’s a place down heah (Fl. called The Golden Corral". The av. client weighs 350. My German friends call it the Golden Trough..

Golden Corral is a well-known stuff-em buffet. They’ve got ‘em out here in CA, as well. They’re all like that, though – Hometown Buffet, Country Buffet. If it says “Buffet” in the name, you can look forward to enormous portions and overweight patrons.
