Yes, NYC has gone from murderers to rapists. Don’t know which reputation is better. I’m reminded of a TV show from my single-digit days called “Naked City,” follow-up to an earlier, unsuccessful show called “The Naked City.” The closing VO to every episode intoned, “There are eight million stories in the naked city. This has been one of them.” Strangely, the number never decreased with each week’s homicide; I guess there was an off-screen birth each week to take the corpse’s place.

L&O’s New York is a cake walk… personally, I’d be terrified of visiting Cabot Cove, Maine—higher per-capita murder rate than Mogadishu….
