Newlyweds Cathy and Irving navigate the treacherous waters of couple-hood. From pampered pets to prying parents, they’ve got a lot to learn! Wedding or not, it’s still all about Cathy - she personifies the young career woman and her typical daily obstacles. Ice cream, panic attacks, stress and love are all in a day’s work. We read, we identify, we laugh. Who could ask for more?
Cathy is the Everywoman. She deals with diets, self-esteem, in-laws, and letting her husband know that she is the boss. Everyone can identify with her shopping, bills, taxes, planning for the future and coping with her husband’s incessant computer golf games. Whether you are a newlywed, single, or have been married for decades, all will enjoy the daily predicaments of Cathy and Irving.

When I was a kid, I once put a fist sized rock in my mom’s purse, it was a week before she noticed it.

She needs wheels on that beast. My needs fit into a tri-fold wallet and contains 4 pieces of plastic (driver’s license, Visa, work ID, and insurance card).
Morning Susan when you arrive. Morning frightenup. How is Lil’ today? Hi shyygirl.
*Hi Mom!
LMB is ready for part 2 of his day to begin — cuddling with me. Life is so hard.

I go in cycles… I carry a variety of things in my purse, never use it, then take stuff out, which of course is when I need it again, so it goes back in.
Good morning, simpsonfan, Shyygirl and Aaron!
Lil’ is doing better, down to 99 degrees at most (normal the rest of the time). She’s just as sassy as usual, so it’s back to school she goes! Thanks for everyone’s nice wishes for her!

I haven’t carried a handbag regularly for years. Keys in my pocket, and that’s about it, usually.

Ah, the big black purse, every mother’s friend. There was a black comedy once which had a woman pulling any manner of stuff from her purse.
When I worked, I couldn’t carry a purse. I had too many other things to manage. (computer, clipboard, various tools)
Now, I get by with a purse small enough to carry keys, a small wallet, glasses and a cell phone. They would all fit in my pockets, except the stupid phone.
Smart phones seem to defy technology logic. Instead of getting smaller, they are growing. Maybe if phones became flexible, we could wrap them around our arms like bracelets.

Smartphones (which I don’t own) get bigger, trying to grow into computers. Computers (which I do) get smaller, trying to become pocket-sized.
Ummm . . . tell you what, boys – why don’t you just swap jobs, and save time?

Not surprising, I’m a lightweight carryer like Aaron. My wallet is almost identical to his with the addition of an NIH Amex card for when I travel. I have no clue what it’d be like to carry even 1/4 the junk Cathy does. Excess yet again. Wow, go figure.
LMB and I are having an early dinner with Aaron (rare as that is — during the week we’re passing ships). Then my buddy (the furry one) and I are going to play soccer.
Hi Mom!

Hi Cathyites!! Like shygirl & frightenup, my purses have grown smaller over the years. When I was in college (the first time) I carried my books in a shoulder bag — resulting in a shoulder that still gives me trouble 40 years later. No more of that — my purse is now small & lightweight.
@frightenup — sorry to hear ‘lil has been sick — hope she is soon feeling better. Also agree, as soon as I take something out of the purse, someone asks for it (all those stupid store cards for instance). Luckily, they can usually find you with a phone number, but not always. I’ve missed out on a couple of discounts for not having a card I took out less than a week before.

OK. I braced myself for this [eye-roll], although it could’ve been a lot worse, too.

I try to keep a minimum of stuff in my purse, but that just doesn’t happen. I need my call phone, wallet, sunglasses, notepad, etc.
