Yes, how has that been working out for the right wing, lets look around for the jobs that the rich created, wow, didnt think I would ever see such a big nothing.
Libs like this are so stupid. Let people keep their money and it will go back into the economy and create jobs. Give it to the government and we get 1 job for every $300,000 spent. It’s a no brain er except for those with no brain.
Ummm… Try $11.5 trillion gone under Reagan, Bush, and Bush.Reagan’s “policies” didn’t get the economy going, it was his massive deficit/stimulus spending. And he got the extra oomph because he got his spending in before he completely maxed out our credit cards.
For 50 years they have taken a nearly flawless capitalist system that was running perfectly in 1960, and have burdened it with more and more unsustainable socialist programs.
.
And then when the system collapses under that socialist burden, they blame the capitalist system…
…but it SOUNDS like it should work, right; free the capitalists, etc? And that’s good enough for the defenders—“Proof? We don’t need no stinkin’ PROOF.”
Obama took $787B of our children’s money to create jobs. Guaranteed unemployment wouldn’t hit 8%. He increased our total national debt by 27% in 2 years. How is that working out for you?
If I have a fender bender and my insurance company gives me $3000 to fix my car, I’m expected to use that money to fix my car. If I use it to by a flat screen tv instead and leave the car dented, it’s called insurance fraud and is a crime. If the Bush tax cuts were intended to create US jobs, than any company who gave out executive bonuses while laying off workers or sending jobs overseas should be held accountable for it. Layoffs to preserve company profitability are one thing, but reducing a workforce while receiving millions in bonuses is greed.
Ya know, every one blames Obama’s policy’s for the 9% unemployment rate, but what has he done it the time he was in office: Continued the bush tax cuts, Aproved a budget plan that included ONLY spending cuts (an action that got us downgraded) and cut regulations on bussiness. hmmmmmmmm, myabe it WAS his policys. His policy to follow Reganomics, but still.
@greyrabbit: You said “For 50 years they have taken a nearly flawless capitalist system that was running perfectly in 1960….” What was the tax rate on the higher income brackets in 1960. Toles is right on today.
Republicans are also behind shutting down the Post Office and privatizing mail. They passed the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act in 2006. The Act’s main provision was to force the post office to fund the health benefits of its retirees for the next 75 years, and to accomplish this in just ten years. Yet another part of their job killing act.
I think the Bakken oil boom can be beneficial for all if we continue to pursue energy independence through drilling. That is to say, lots of factors have been at work in the last 50 years to hurt our economy, some of which are the fault of Republicans and some of which are the fault of Democrats. Tax cuts may or may not be the pure answer, but allowing America to take the steps it needs to take to become energy independent is SURELY part of the answer. As to the strip, I don’t believe raising taxes on the rich is a sustainable or reasonable answer, either.
eepatt: The ultra-wealthy don’t pay any of those supposed high tax rates that you might see on the IRS scale. They are able to form independent foundations for their wealth, through which they need distribute only 5% of the total value of the foundation per year in order to qualify for their continued charitable status. That’s why you have things like the MacArthur Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Gates foundation…etc….the whole “raise the taxes on the rich” idea is just not as simple as people are led to believe.
Simple fact: 2000-2010= greatest debt accumulation in the history of the United States. Second highest 1981-1993. Current increases are STILL largely “trickle down” from previous administration wars and errors. We need rational cuts AND MUST RAISE TAXES- as they say, it’s simple math.
Our tax revenue is way below that of European countries that have much lower unemployment than we do. There is no evidence that lower taxes will create jobs, and there’s no accepted economic theory that would predict it. All that lower taxes on the rich have done is made the rich richer, and their extra funds get invested in bubbles, not American jobs.

You’d think the Bush tax cuts would ring a bell. Or are they saying there has to be more for the magic to happen?

It’s working about as well as bailing out the banks so they’d loan money to the consumers/tax payers.

Take a look at unemployment, GDP, personal savings, inflation, and all the other major indicators in 1960. Then look at them since.
