But what of those of us who think that “professional” sports are a bunch of bull$h!p??? I really don’t understand why someone would follow a group that collectively “earns” more than 100 times their own annual salary each just for playing a game. I happen to think that the regular endeavors like accountants, car mechanics, retail workers and other “normal” professions are far more valuable to society than someone who just plays a game. I agree with Lennie on this!!!

We all need to rant from time to time. You got your point across Lennie.

I don’t like football, or other sports, either, Lennie. Never have. It used to mystify me how people could get so emotionally worked up over a ball game. I concluded it must have something to do with aggressive people needing a place to vent and express their more primitive, angry, tribalistic impulses in a relatively harmless manner. But I don’t feel that aggression and never have. I think there are plenty of us around; we just stay quiet most of the time and avoid sports whenever we can, while going along when we have to, so we don’t trigger our more aggressive friends and relatives.

‘Completely against the grain of popular opinion’? It certainly was not against the grain of my opinion. I just happen to agree with Lennie. But the masses need their bread and circuses and I guess football fills the circus part. Unless of course we are talking about real football aka soccer. I do enjoy watching soccer as there can be some incredible plays – some almost impossible. I do have some favourite teams but I often cheer a really good goal made by the other team. Guess I like the play and not the end result – well some of the time.

I enjoy sports. When we had an NFL team, I was in on season tickets. I go to about 20 or so NHL games each year.
